As the final weekend of Robert Peterson: Journeys at the Hudson River Museum approaches, I find myself searching for words big enough to hold the gratitude I feel. I’m not sure they exist.

This exhibition has been so much more than paintings hanging on museum walls. It has been a reminder of how far a dream can travel when people believe in it, nurture it, and make room for it to be seen.

To everyone at the Hudson River Museum, thank you for the extraordinary care you gave my work and for welcoming me with such genuine love. To the people of Yonkers, thank you for opening your city and your hearts to me. To every person who walked through those doors, stood in front of a painting, attended my artist talk, shared a photograph, told a friend, made a post, or simply whispered a kind word about this exhibition, please know that you became a part of Journeys too.

To Mayor Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and the City of Yonkers, thank you for honoring me in ways I never could have imagined, including proclaiming an official Robert Peterson Day. To be embraced by a city that is not my own, yet somehow made me feel as though I belonged there, is something I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

And to Art Bridges Foundation , thank you for believing in the power of art to travel, connect communities, and bring people together. None of this would have been possible without you.

There are moments in an artist’s life that become part of their story forever. Journeys is one of mine.

My paintings may leave these walls, but a piece of my heart will remain in Yonkers.

I’m a college drop out whose daughter graduates from college in less than a year. With two degrees. I’m also a college dropout who just signed a letter of agreement to go and speak at the same college my daughter is graduating from because they feel I have something that some people might be interested in hearing about.

God can use anyone, don’t let your past keep you from being used!!!!

Figure out your purpose then wake up and set out on purpose to walk in that purpose!!!

There is a kind of peace that can’t be spoken, only felt. The soft weight of someone you love beside you, their warmth quieting everything restless inside. Your heart slows because it knows it is safe. It knows it is home.

There’s a quiet magic in simply knowing they’re there. No words are needed. Their presence soothes parts of you that you didn’t even know were tired. And when they’re away, their love remains, in the memory of their smile, the sound of their laughter, the warmth they leave behind. A steady light in a world that can sometimes feel dark.

In their presence, two become one, and somehow, you feel whole.

Black is the cloak that protects, the voice that reshapes, the spirit that refuses to break.
Not the absence of light, but the presence of all possibility. Mysterious, powerful, unshaken.

To be Black is to create from nothing, to build when the odds say don’t, to rise in ways that don’t always make noise but always leave impact.
It is beauty without permission, strength without approval, and a presence that cannot be erased.
