Enmeshed: New Works
We are pleased to announce that Molly Murphy will be our featured artist in February. The show features new works based on her experience as an International Artist in Residence in Selangor, Malaysia. Join us for the opening reception on Final Friday, February 28th from 5-9.

"My three-year old daughter accompanied me in the studio over a six week period. We lived in a traditional Malay house along a forested path filled with critically endangered species of trees, each marked with a yellow ribbon. We talked about life cycles, shared biology, the necessity of things dying the right way.

As I tried to explain the disappearing biodiversity, the work became less about the environment; less about the culture of a place halfway around the world. Rather, these works turn an eye to a more personal record of the space we inhabit, marking the paths of conversations, the uncertainties and tensions of single-motherhood, and the intimate rhythms of lives lived together."

Tonight is our last Final Friday of 2019. Join us for a display of gratitude, color and community!

Louis Copt Opening Final Friday! Join us 5-9.
"We treat desire as a problem to be solved, address what desire is for and focus on that something and how to acquire it rather than on the nature and the sensation of desire, though often it is the distance between us and the object of desire that fills the space in between with the blue of longing. I wonder sometimes whether with a slight adjustment of perspective it could be cherished as a sensation on its own terms, since it is as inherent to the human condition as blue is to distance? If you can look across the distance without wanting to close it up, if you can own your longing in the same way that you own the beauty of that blue that can never be possessed? For something of this longing will, like the blue of distance, only be relocated, not assuaged, by acquisition and arrival, just as the mountains cease to be blue when you arrive among them and the blue instead tints the next beyond. Somewhere in this is the mystery of why tragedies are more beautiful than comedies and why we take a huge pleasure in the sadness of certain songs and stories. Something is always far away."
