Poky Co, IA Historical Society This page is dedicated to preserving the history of Pocahontas County, Iowa Pocahontas County was formed in 1851.

It was named for the fabled Indian princess Pocahontas, daughter of the Chief Powhatan and wife of Englishman John Rolfe. The county presently contains the incorporated cities of Pocahontas, Laurens, Rolfe, Fonda, Gilmore City, Palmer, Havelock, Plover, and Varina. The Pocahontas County Historical Society Museum is located in Laurens in the northwest corner of the county.

County fifth graders enjoyed a day at Cooper's Cove and Wiegert Farm on Wednesday. The students were a pleasure to work with and the day was pretty nice for April. Posted are some photos from the farmhouse.
