September 2, 1945, was the day the formal Japanese Instrument of Surrender was signed aboard the USS Missouri, officially ending World War II. As we approach September 2, let us take a moment to remember the brave servicemen and servicewomen whose courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment made Victory over Japan (VJ-Day) a reality. Their service helped bring an end to World War II and secured the freedoms we continue to cherish today. May we honor their legacy by remembering not only the victory they achieved, but also the tremendous price they paid to make that victory possible. Their courage will never be forgotten.
