Today, the Lincoln Highway Experience is closed in observance of Juneteenth.
Observed annually on June 19, Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when news of emancipation finally reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas - more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
As we reflect on this important chapter in our nation's history, we honor the ongoing pursuit of freedom, equality, and justice.
We encourage our community to take time today to learn, reflect, and celebrate the resilience, achievements, and contributions of Black Americans throughout our shared history.
The museum will reopen tomorrow with regular hours.
