This Sunday, our Car Cruise will connect with something taking place far beyond our museum grounds—and all along the Lincoln Highway. 🇺🇸⚓

From 2–4 PM local time, communities across the country are being invited to participate in forthe Lincoln, a peaceful coast-to-coast show of support for the sailors and families of the USS Abraham Lincoln following an exceptionally long and demanding deployment.

Because our Car Cruise brings the community together along the historic Lincoln Highway, we will pause at 2:30 PM for an optional group photo near our Route 30 gas-pump sculpture. Car Cruise participants and spectators are warmly invited to join us as we help carry this message down the road:

They stood for us. We stand for them.

The 5th Annual Car Cruise takes place Sunday, August 30, from 11 AM–3 PM at the Lincoln Highway Experience, 3435 State Route 30 East in Latrobe.

A little vintage style for this Throwback Thursday! ✨

At last year’s Car Cruise, Ron and Elizabeth Hobbs and their daughter, Eirene, arrived dressed for the road-tripping era represented inside the Lincoln Highway Experience. Posed beside our 1937 Packard, the Hobbs family reminded us that the stories surrounding these vehicles—the fashions, personalities, family memories, and adventures—are every bit as interesting as the automobiles themselves.

We can’t wait to see the people, stories, and wheels that come together for our 5th Annual Car Cruise this Sunday!

What a wonderful evening at the Lincoln Highway Experience!

Yesterday’s screening of After Ike brought together a full house for an engaging look at Dwight D. Eisenhower’s life, leadership, and enduring legacy—from his experience on the 1919 Transcontinental Motor Convoy to the years that followed his presidency.

Our sincere thanks to Ambassador Michael S. Owen, Brian Butko, and Todd Simpson for sharing their knowledge and perspectives during the panel discussion—and to everyone who joined us, asked thoughtful questions, and helped make the evening such a success.

We are also grateful to our volunteers and staff who kept the popcorn popping and the entire event running smoothly.

Finally, thank you to ArTech Group LLC whose support helps us bring programs like this to our community. Yesterday was a wonderful reminder that history is best experienced—and discussed—together. 🇺🇸🛣️

Today at 4 p.m., join us at the Lincoln Highway Experience for a special screening of After Ike—a film exploring how Dwight D. Eisenhower’s early experiences on the Lincoln Highway helped shape his vision for America’s interstate highway system.

Following the film, continue the conversation with our panelists: author and historian Brian Butko, retired serviceman Todd Simpson, and Ambassador Michael S. Owen, author of the book that inspired the film.

Sometimes the best part of a Lincoln Highway journey begins when you park the car and follow a trail. 🥾🌲

In the newest edition of Lindsay’s Lincoln Log, I’m exploring the parks, trails, waterways, and scenic views waiting just beyond Route 30—including Wolf Rocks, only about six miles off the Lincoln Highway.

My love of hiking began as a child near the Lincoln in Auburn, California, and it continues to shape how I travel today. With road trips becoming increasingly expensive, an outdoor detour can also be a simple, affordable way to make the journey more memorable. Pack a picnic, bring your fishing pole, or take a short hike before returning to the road.

Skip the Turnpike, slow down, and discover where the highway meets the trail.

Long before Americans proclaimed “I Like Ike,” Dwight D. Eisenhower was a young Army officer discovering just how difficult it could be to cross the country by road.

In 1919, Eisenhower joined the first Transcontinental Motor Convoy as it traveled west along the Lincoln Highway. The journey took more than two months, testing soldiers, vehicles, bridges, and roads along the way. Trucks became stuck, equipment broke down, and stretches of the nation’s first coast-to-coast highway proved nearly impassable.

The experience stayed with Eisenhower. Decades later, as president, he helped bring about an interstate system that transformed American travel—but his road story began here, along the Lincoln Highway.

In just two days, see that story continue on screen at our special presentation of After Ike.
