Local organizations looking for meaningful projects to celebrate America's 250th are encouraged to learn more about an exciting local project led by the Lapeer County Genealogical Society. The Society has a long tradition of cleaning and repairing headstones and will help other organizations with training and supplies to clean veterans' headstones in their local cemeteries. To learn more, stop by our table at LAPEER'S AMERICA 250 CELEBRATION ON JUNE 20 from 1pm to 5pm. Society representatives will be at a table outside the courthouse and at the Lapeer County Historical Society Museum at 518 W. Nepessing Street. Or email us at [email protected].

Gregory Sumner – Detroit in WWII
Gregory Sumner is Professor of History Emeritus at the University of Detroit Mercy. Many members will remember when Greg presented a program on POW Camps in Michigan.
Greg will discuss his book DETROIT IN WWII, which looks at all aspects of life in the "Arsenal of Democracy," including Henry Ford's Willow Run bomber plant, the Rosie the Riveters who did the dirty work in the war plants, the civil defense drills and rationing restrictions that affected daily life and the quiet heroism of Tigers great Hank Greenberg.
