October featured artist Barbara Marks’ wildlife paintings and carvings are inspired by a lifelong love of North American big game and the wild habitats they inhabit. Born in Minneapolis to British parents, Barbara completed her education in Cheshire, England, and later taught in Bristol. She eventually ventured to the wilds of Wyoming, where she began her career as an artist in Jackson Hole, carving antler, bone, and wood.

“My work has been shaped by the many places I’ve lived and visited,” she says. “Geographical and cultural differences are reflected in my art. I also like to create a sense of movement and convey exuberance and joy.”

Now living on Whidbey Island, Washington, Barbara continues to paint, drawing inspiration from the natural world that has long been at the heart of her work.

October featured artist Nan Leaman utilizes dyeing and surface design techniques to create and color her artwork, using natural lightweight wool, silk, or a combination of both. Nan has had a lifelong passion for textiles and fiber. Over four decades ago, she began her journey as a weaver and spinner and eventually raised her own sheep. Although she no longer weaves or spins, she continues to raise long-wool Old English sheep breeds and incorporate their wool into some of her work.
