Imagine this as your front door!

Can you imagine coming home to this every day? And just imagine what it looks like in person, because this photo truly doesn’t do it justice!

This incredible entrance welcomes visitors to the Reese-Peters House, built in 1835. Nearly 200 years later, it still makes quite the first impression!

✨ Look at that beautiful diamond-patterned glasswork stretching across the top and down both sides of the door.

✨ Take in the impressive scale, from the towering door to the intricate woodwork and layered trim surrounding it.

✨ And just think about the care it takes to preserve all those historic details — from maintaining the woodwork and painted surfaces to protecting the delicate glass.

This isn’t just a front door. It’s a reminder that even the everyday parts of a home can be extraordinary when craftsmanship and architectural detail take center stage.

Looking to dive a little deeper into Color Improvisations 3?

Join us for two upcoming Sunday programs featuring conversations with artists and historians who bring unique perspectives to the story of contemporary quilts.

Sunday, October 25 | 2 p.m.
Artist Jennifer Fons will share her journey of finding her voice as an artist and how her roots in traditional quilting have shaped her own body of work. She’ll explore the personal meaning, history, and possibilities of working with textiles as an artist.

Sunday, November 1 | 2 p.m.
Quilt historian Ellice Ronsheim will explore the evolution from traditional bedcovers to works of art displayed on the wall, examining how quilts have changed alongside culture, technology, and our needs over the past 200 years.

In “I Hope I Have Something Clever to Say Right Before I Die” (2023), artist Sarah Pavlik uses words and fabric to explore grief, memory, and the lasting influence of her mother.

As Sarah shares:

“I have never dug deeper to express grief and fined authenticity on
recently losing my Mother. She was an original whose words cover my quilt.”

🏆 We’re honored to announce that the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio has received a History Outreach Award from the Ohio Local History Alliance! Ohio Local History Alliance

Our exhibition “Heartland: Ohio’s Stories in 250 Objects” was recognized in the Exhibits and Displays category. These awards celebrate projects that educate, inspire, and connect audiences to local and state history, and that make a real impact on the community.

“Heartland “brought together 250 objects to tell the story of Ohio through the art, craft, and design that shaped our lives. Each piece opened a window into the people, places, and moments that make the Buckeye State what it is. We’re proud that the exhibition invited visitors of all ages to see Ohio’s history in a new way.

This achievement belongs to many hands. Our heartfelt thanks to:

✨ Our curators, Andrew Richmond and Hollie Davis, whose vision, research, and care shaped every object, label, and story in the galleries Andrew Richmond

✨ Our dedicated staff for bringing the exhibition to life and welcoming thousands of visitors
