The museums are now closed for the season. They will re-open in April, 2023! Policy regarding posts:

- Stereotypes can be divisive and offensive and such comments will be monitored closely.
- We ask that the community refrain from responding if comment threads are taken over by trolls; people who post comments specifically to start a fight, defame, divide, distract or otherwise detract from the overall purpose of the community.
- Avoid minimizing or denying the importance of comments/posts from others.
- Do not use this social media community for self-promotion.
- Please do not use the comments section to air complaints about a post, a particular comment, or the moderation of our page.

Not only is it Scipio Smith Day, it's the one-year anniversary of his statue! On May 29, 2025, the community turned out in large numbers to see the unveiling of the sculpture that stands in Downtown Lancaster.

Many thanks to everyone who donated to the cause and helped make this incredible statue a reality!

Happy Scipio Smith Day!
Today, we celebrate Scipio Smith. Scipio's birthday was May 29th and was also the day that he received his full emancipation at the age of 25 (May 29, 1821). He was the first black businessman in the City of Lancaster and the founder of the A.M.E. Church and school (present-day Allen Chapel). Scipio overcame incredible odds - from being born as a slave, to losing a leg - and became a leading member of the community.

This year, we are asking you to join us in filling blessing boxes and little libraries in his honor. Every little bit helps!
Thank you so much!
