The establishment of the Ohio Glass Museum incorporated in 2002 reflects the importance of glass in the history and development of Lancaster and Fairfield County's financial stability from 1888 to present. Because of the abundance of natural resources including natural gas and sand in this area, the establishment of the glass industry was a logical step in utilizing those resources.

We have this little treasure right here in the museum! The “Dog with Hat” was made by Belmont Glass Works in Bellaire, Ohio, around 1887. It was also known as the “Dog and Hat Toothpick.”

If you find one, try putting a quarter into the hat. If it drops all the way to the bottom, it may be an original. The original catalog/design images are sourced from the Early American Pattern Glass Society and we are so proud to have a little special part of history here in our museum! Stop in and check this puppy out! 😊

We had such a wonderful group visit us from Abbington of Pickerington! These ladies recently became the newest members of our Treasures of Ohio club and spent the day learning about Ohio’s glassmaking history and enjoying a glassblowing demonstration.

We love getting to welcome groups like this and share a little bit of Ohio glass history with our visitors. A big thank you to Renee, Brenda and Carmi Janeri for organizing such a fun day!

If your group would like to visit, we offer personalized tours and can accommodate groups of any size, including VIP bus parking. Give us a call at 740-687-0101 to schedule your visit. 😊

How cool is it that we have the Excalibur right here at the Ohio Glass Museum? This incredible paperweight and letter opener was designed by Steuben artist James Houston in 1963 using faceted crystal, sterling silver, and gold. 💌 The following photos are from a Steuben catalog now held by the Corning Museum of Glass, featuring this same exact piece. How interesting to see something documented in a historic catalog and then realize that it’s sitting right here in our museum for us to see in person. Stop by and check it out!
