Unleash your inner hero and enter a world of mythology, monsters, and legendary adventures! This week at the North Museum, we’re diving into the fascinating world of Greek mythology. See the world like a Cyclops, create your own mythical monster mashup, and design a Greek-inspired vase worthy of Mount Olympus. Whether you’re a mighty hero, a mischievous trickster, or just curious about the creatures of ancient Greece, there’s a mythological adventure waiting for you!

Our Greek mythology theme isn't just about legendary gods and mythical monsters—it’s also a chance to take a closer look at a few pieces of ancient Greece right here at the North Museum.

Down on the basement floor, you’ll find a small collection of Greek artifacts, including a Greek vase, figurine, and oil lamp. These objects offer a tangible connection to the people, art, and everyday life of the ancient world—and a fun opportunity to see some of the kinds of objects that inspired stories and imagery that have lasted for thousands of years.

While you’re exploring Greek mythology throughout the Museum, take a moment to head downstairs and see a little piece of ancient Greece for yourself!

There's a new addition to our red-eyed crocodile skink family! Pictured is Syrax with her new baby, who hatched two weekends ago here at North Museum.

Red-eyed crocodile skinks guard their eggs and young, and our baby skink will usually be found next to or on top of one of its parents. They are shy and reclusive, so not always visible, but make sure to stop by our Live Animal Room on your next visit for a chance at seeing the new addition!

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗥𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀!

What can a rock from space tell us? Quite a lot! This month's theme explores the fascinating science of meteorites, asteroids, and other rocky worlds through interactive activities and engaging exhibits that inspire curiosity about our place in the universe.

Themed Activities:
☄️ Draw a constellation
☄️ Make a shooting star
☄️ Learn about meteorites

Speaking of rocks... Join us at Millport Conservancy for an unforgettable Perseid Meteor Shower Stargazing Party—right during its dazzling peak.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻: Wednesday, August 12 | 8:30 PM–10:30 PM

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: Millport Conservancy, Lititz, PA. Just minutes from Lancaster—yet light-years away from skyglow!

The Perseid meteor shower is famous for producing up to 100 meteors per hour, including brilliant fireballs—flashes of light so bright they can rival Venus in the night sky. These "shooting stars" seem to originate from the constellation Perseus in the northeastern sky, and will be visible with the naked eye, even amidst some lunar light pollution.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴:
Blankets, camp chairs, warm drinks, and your curiosity! Binoculars are welcome but not necessary.

🌧️ 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗲𝘀:
In the event of rain or cloudy skies, the star party will be moved to North Museum for a FREE live stream in the planetarium.

Cost of admission is free! Please RSVP using the link below to let us know you're coming.

Preschool Picassos is TOMORROW!

Happening the first Saturday of every month, Preschool Picassos provides young visitors with a unique art experience where we teach children various science-based art techniques alongside their caregivers. As children experiment and explore, they will not only learn to be a part of the conversation around Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM), but they will create some unique works of art along the way!

Facilitator Marilyn Zenko has a background in STEM as an archeologist and is currently a Senior Client Development Specialist at Terracon.

Enter with General Admission. $13 each.
Free for Members.
