From Barb’s artist statement:
In my practice as a nurse, I witnessed mortality and the end of life. Within this awareness, I discovered the opposite force of the nature of healing and balance. This is expressed in my painting and collages. Quilting has always been practiced in women’s work as it was in my maternal grandmother’s rural life. Color is second nature to me. These restorative forces in nature are the driving wonders of nature that I continue to explore, plus the vibrance of the Mexican palate seeps out effortlessly.
Women Artist Caucus of Colorado (WCACO) has been a life line for me, giving the inclusive support and opportunity to show my work and learn from my colleagues.
I humbly offer the sage advice of 85 years. As an artist you must do two things:
Dive into life following your instincts and heart... study, learn, fall in love, raise children, survive illness and life challenges... that is the content to paint.
Hone your art practice, the skills you will need to put it together... find your strengths and never give up.
