IMPORTANT! CALL TO ACTION
So we launched the online petition regarding the Helix Land purchase by the county and now we need your help. We are so close to protecting the last portions of the Helix land in the El Monte Valley. For a little background, in December, Supervisor Dianne Jacob won a vote to provide nearly $3 million to acquire 104 acres of the San Diego River in the El Monte Valley. Staff was instructed finalize the contract with Helix and bring it back for final board signature vote.
The only remaining step is for the San Diego County Board of Supervisors to authorize county staff to execute the purchase agreement. The vote was delayed and now we have a brand-new board of supervisors, who have not heard from Lakesiders and East County folk about how much we value and treasure the El Monte Valley. Well now is our time to let them know. Lakeside LOVES the El Monte Valley. We need everyone to who loves El Monte Valley to send a letter ASAP and then show up on Zoom for a county meeting on Feb 10 (link to the meeting will be published later)
Below is a sample letter you can use. Please send it to ALL of our Board of Supervisors. Their email addresses are below. Thank you!!

Subject: El Monte Valley Land Acquisition
I am a resident of ____________________. I am writing to let you know of my deep support for your yes vote on February 10 of the finalization of the sale to San Diego County of Helix land in the El Monte Valley.
I love the El Monte Valley of Lakeside. It is one of the most beautiful valleys in San Diego County and its mighty El Cajon Mountain, AKA El Capitan, defines San Diego’s eastern vista. With your vote, you will protect forever a large portion of this valley I and many others hold dear for its recreational value, Kumeyaay cultural heritage, and natural beauty. Your YES vote on the acquisition will demonstrate to our community that you have our interests and well-being at heart. We will know that you value and want to protect our valley as much as we do. And we, as a community, will know that you are open to hearing our voices.
I will appreciate your yes vote for RESOLUTION 20-46 OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF HELIX WATER DISTRICT AUTHORIZING THE SALE OF LAND IN UNINCORPORATED LAKESIDE,COUNTY OF SAN DIEGO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, ASSESSOR PARCEL NUMBERS 392-050-47(POR.)AND 392-060 43(POR.); APPROVE THE PURCHASE AND SALE AGREEMENT;AUTHORIZE THE GENERAL MANAGER TO EXECUTE ALL DOCUMENTS NECESSARY TO OPEN ESCROW AND CLOSE THE TRANSACTION; AND DETERMINE THE PROJECT IS EXEMPT UNDER THE CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY ACT.
Thank you for your support of this acquisition. With your YES vote, you will be saving one of San Diego’s most beautiful valleys in perpetuity, as a legacy to our Kumeyaay community, for the entire community to enjoy, and as a gift to future generations.
