Blazing star, also known as liatris, is a native wildflower that brings more than just color to the landscape. Its blooms attract butterflies and bees, making it a beautiful addition to the Gardens and a helpful resource for local pollinators 🦋🐝
 
Fun fact: the tiny flowers open from the top of the spike down, rather than from the bottom up! 🪻

In honor of Edward W. Bok’s birthday on October 9, we’re sharing another favorite throwback! Featuring Edward and his wife, Mary Louise, enjoying a quiet moment by the water 🎣

Born in the Netherlands, Edward immigrated to the United States with his family at just six years old. He went on to become the editor of The Ladies’ Home Journal, where he spent 30 years sharing ideas that shaped American homes and communities.

We’re grateful everyday for his vision and generosity that brought Bok Tower Gardens to life!

Happy birthday to our founder, Edward W. Bok! 🎂

Born on October 9, 1863, Edward Bok believed in making the world a little better and more beautiful through the way we live. A Pulitzer Prize-winning author, editor, and philanthropist, he brought that belief to life when he gifted Bok Tower Gardens to the American people in 1929.

Today, we celebrate his legacy and the inspiration behind our mission: to inspire a better and more beautiful world.

You can see this beautiful birthday bouquet resting at his grave in front of the Great Brass Door at the Singing Tower.
