⏰🗓️First day, a little in between, and the last day

✨Endlessly grateful for an unforgettable summer at Artspace!

Wrapping up my internship here has been an absolute dream.

Thank you to the entire ACLO community for welcoming me with open arms and giving me a front-row seat to the magic, chaos, and detail that goes into running a gallery behind the scenes.

To all the brilliant artists featured in our summer exhibitions: thank you for sharing your work, your vision, and your heart with us.

Being surrounded by your creativity every day has been beyond inspiring.

My definite favorite core memory was helping set up our current show, "What We (Be)Hold".

"What We (Be)Hold" is open to see Tuesday - Friday, 10 AM -5 PM until October 30th!!!

🖼️🎨The energy, the community, and the incredible space everyone in ACLO built together during that process is something I’ll carry with me forever.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to work in the art world, I can’t recommend this experience enough!

Do not hesitate to reach out to the gallery if you're interested in interning—you will learn so much and meet the best people.

As for what’s next:

🎓🎨I’m headed back to Willamette University to kick off my 4th year! I’ll be spending the upcoming semesters finishing up my Studio Art degree and diving headfirst into completing my senior thesis.

Illumination

Tactile depth, dramatic contrast, and raw PRESENCE. 🌿✨

To capture the unique presence of this composition, Harley steps beyond traditional pastel techniques. The process begins with an underpainting of complementary colors to lay out foundational shapes. To capture the rough contrast of stone against light and shadow, Harley uses a palette knife to apply a layer of gesso mixed with pumice, creating a gritty, tactile ground. When soft pastel is later swept across this textured surface, it catches unpredictable light and adds unexpected depth.

Combined with ink slashes and rich, playing shadows, Illumination creates a dramatic tension between colors—cracking open a fleeting moment in nature for us to behold.

"I make art to understand the world and to spark a sense of thoughtful lightness—an antidote to the hyper-analytical, capitalist culture that disconnects us from each other and the natural world.

In a world that constantly demands speed, hyper-logic, and productivity, this piece is an invitation to slow down, breathe, and step into a space of curiosity. 🌿

This sculpture is part of a series that serves as a dense, layered meditation on culture, history, and the body—created as my way of beholding and digesting My Grandmother’s Hands by Resmaa Menakem.

Rather than letting the analytical mind lead, my process relies on staying open as a conduit: listening to the intelligence that moves through the materials, through place, and through repetition. Each layer carries a rhythm of attention and embodied intuition. Bound together through texture, fiber, and shadow, the piece reflects both the weight of memory and the resilience found in somatic processing.

I believe artists are culture shifters. Through work like this, my aim is to rebuild pathways back to wonder, deep interconnection, and our shared humanity."
