Join self-proclaimed foamer (a person obsessed with trains) David Jorling in this lecture on the history of railroads in Oregon. Discover the development of rail lines, how they shaped the state, and the broader history of rail travel. You'll never see traintracks the same way!

David Jorling worked as an Assistant District Attorney for several decades before joining the Board of Directors at the Heritage Rail Museum in Portland, Oregon.

WE'RE COUNTING DOWN THE DAY'S UNTIL AUGUST 30TH'S CAR & BOAT SHOW!

For this year's Collector Car & Classic Boat Show, we want to thank our GOLD SPONSORS: Ron & Linda Erickson, Mary's Woods, The Stafford, and Columbia Bank. Today's takes us to Atwater Road, c. 1940s! These neighborhood kids may look like a roving gang, but photographs often captured them riding their bicycles along the farmlands of Atwater Road.

This photograph comes from the Meyer family, who lived on a dairy farm on Atwater. Many of their photographs capture the fields and farms of the area, worked by the families of these same children.

We're throwing a Volunteer Appreciation Party on Saturday, Sept. 19th, from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM at the Heritage House!

We couldn't exist without the contributions of volunteers. Even more than that, so much of Lake Oswego history would be lost without volunteers throughout the community working hard to preserve and share it. So this party isn't just open to Oswego Heritage Council volunteers - it's open to volunteers from other historical groups in the community, including the Lake Oswego Preservation Society and the Historic Resources Advisory Board.

Our goal is to build connection, celebrate these amazing folks, and share our enthusiasm for this work! Food, drinks, and fun will be provided.

WE'RE COUNTING DOWN THE DAY'S UNTIL AUGUST 30TH'S CAR & BOAT SHOW!

For this year's Collector Car & Classic Boat Show, we want to thank our VENUE SPONSORS: Harnish Properties, the Warner family, and Active Water Sports. If you want to learn more about Harnish Properties or Active Water Sports, make sure to check out the boat show portion of the event at Sundeleaf Plaza! Harnish Properties will be selecting the winner of the award, The Spirit of Lake Oswego, and Active Water Sports will be giving test rides throughout the bay.

Sometimes, we have a photograph in a collection that isn't labeled or identified, but contains interesting information all the same. So for today's , let's take a look at one of those photographs!

This photo comes from the Pollard Family Collection, although the boy is unidentified. We do not know where this shop was, who took the photo, or their connection to Lake Oswego, but you can see some interesting details:
1) The calendar showing the date as September 1922.
2) "School Books are Cash" sign
3) The magazines on the rack
4) The pharmaceutical items that showcase the era

Have you been to check out our Quilt Exhibit yet? While most were crafted by the Oswego Quilters, this quilt was actually made by Miss Barbara Wost's 5th grade class at Lakewood School. The students made it for the 1976 bi-centennial of the United States of America, displaying it at the Oregon State Fair that year.

Come check it out, along with others, through September!
