This is a Story Map Journal. By integrating storytelling with quantitative data, this journal brings data to life! It uses the information available through numerous government and non-profit partners to create easy to understand maps that are explained within the context of Lake Pepin.

Since the Minnesota River Basin (MRB) is the biggest contributor to Lake Pepin water quality concerns, the story here limits its scope to the issues and activities occurring throughout this region. Without upstream mitigation

Here at Lake Pepin Legacy Alliance (LPLA), we are committed to working with partners to create a more optimistic future for the Minnesota River Basin and Lake Pepin. That is why, we will always advocate for the most cost-effective mitigation strategies. However, we also acknowledge that water quality improvements are slow and Lake Pepin doesn't have time to wait. Therefore, LPLA is also leading the Lake Pepin Restoration Project to address water quality concerns through proven management efforts within the lake.

Check out our newest project designed to harness the data from community members and tourists visiting Lake Pepin! Document water quality concerns by taking photos and marking the location on the map. Use the "locate me" feature if you are at the site where the photo was taken and the entry will automatically get pinned. By monitoring the health of Lake Pepin together, we can help make the often overlooked concerns more visible.

The bike trail from Red Wing will run parallel to the 3 lane highway.

As this rendering shows, the proposed Hwy 61 Reconstruction in Lake City directly aligns with the scope of Mississippi Blufflands Trail, by connecting the City of Lake City Riverwalk safely to Central Point Road and then will go on to Hok-Si-La Park with a trail segment. Let's hope our City Council members vote in favor of the proposed Hwy 61 Reconstruction project.
