The July meeting went well last Wednesday. Pershing Days is set for Friday Sep 10th and Sat 11. The PPMA will be there, however, due to covid no silent auction will be held. Planning for some out in the street sales of Mums, Pumpkins and Gourds like last year. Sherry Ellison donated another Poppy Quilt and it is breath taking! It is Queen size and in addition to the poppies has 52 butterflies! We will be selling raffle tickets soon and the first public display will be at the Bank of Brookfield Purdin where chances will be available. It will then spend time in all the area banks up until Pershing Days when the drawing will occur. Stay tuned for further details.

On Thursday 5/20/2021 we had a great surprise waiting for Judge Devoy. Brian Stith, Deputy Director Missouri State Parks, presented Judge Devoy an honorarium proclamation from the Missouri House of Representatives. This was truly a rare honor which highlighted Judge Devoy's dedication and accomplishments to the Pershing boyhood Home and Pershing State parks. The board of directors were also on hand to honor our leader.

Veteran's DaySherry Ellison has completed the 2020 Pershing Poppy Quilt and it is truly remarkable. Some lucky person can win this quilt by purchasing a lottery ticket for 10 dollars. This Quilt will be the only source of funds other than donations this year due to the ongoing CV-19 pandemic. The quilt is 6'x 2" long and 4'x8" wide and is museum quality. Tickets are available by contacting any PPMA board member. The lucky winner will be notified
on Nov 11, 2020, Veteran's Day .

We finally had our first meeting of the year last Wednesday due to the CV-19 virus. VP Jerry Dale called the meeting to order at 1800 with a quorum present.
1. BSA Daniel Heaney will be working on his Eagle Scout project honoring the 957 Missouri soldiers killed in WWI that are still buried in European graves. Daniel presented his plan to the board that was met with great enthusiasm.
2. Pershing Days is on! mark your calendars 11-12 & 13 September in Laclede. The PPMA silent auction and Wine & Cheese party is scheduled for Saturday night.
3. The Model T needs some sprucing up. Action, Rick Scruggs.
4. Sherry Ellison will be making another Poppy Quilt this year. She is a sensational artist.
5. We need to get a bid from Jack Turpin on finishing up some roof and wall issues with the PPMA building......ongoing.
6. Rick will contact MU, KU, K-State and NU Pershing rifle teams to organize the Color Guard for the parade. There is a potential for some last minute decisions due to the CV-19 crisis.
7. It's pretty obvious the CV-19 epidemic has the potential to cancel the whole program, however, at this time, we are leaning forward in the foxhole.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 1900 Hours.

Due to the CV-19 recommendations, the March 2020 meeting was postponed. Poppies have been ordered for the Spring.

01/10/2020

It's that time of year that PPMA takes a break until this Spring. We have the Model T running and plan to use it during 2020 for local parades whenever possible. The last treasurer's report showed our status is on track with no issues. We get things rolling again in March so keep the "home fires" burning.

Pershing Days summary. The annual meeting for election of board members was held at 10:00, adjourned at 11:00 and then the party began! The silent auction, wine and cheese tasting and gun raffle was fun for all and helped our finances greatly. Our gross revenue for 2019 was $4,482.50 with total expenses $1,114.99 for a net margin of $3,367.51. (Actually this is $500 better because the Emery Wood Trust donated $500 toward silent auction items to be purchased, that is included in the general donation figure below). Mum sales total $660 and expense of $261 for a $399 margin. General donations received Saturday total $3,350 and we picked up one new life member at $150. General expenses: newsletter and postage $323, framing 3 pictures to display Pershing litho's $120.50 and Mr. Clean Shine $300. Honestly, the old building has never looked better. A hearty thank you for all the board members who helped. A big thank you to Terry Milford for getting our Model T truck running, and to drive it in the parade.

For the first time in history, the K-State and U. Nebraska Pershing drill teams color guards combined for a wonderful performance that is now standardized as a yearly event at Pershing Days. The National Commander is looking at other ROTC units in Missouri that may want to join this team.

This year's party got off to a very sad incident as Claire Devoy broke her hip on Friday while helping with the building prep. Claire had hip surgery Friday night at University Hospital and She is already home in Brookfield recovering! This brave woman is an inspiration to us all. We all love you, Claire!
