Archaeologists restore Second Temple flooring from Waqf's trash - Archaeology

Have you ever wondered what the Temple Mount would have looked like two millennium ago? Recent archeological work now reveals what the floor would have looked like, giving a hint of the splendor and care in which the Temple was built.

http://www.haaretz.com/jewish/archaeology/1.740548

Experts recreate geometrically patterned marble floor tiles by piecing together ancient fragments of stone. The result recalls the Talmudic teaching that 'whoever has not seen Herod's building has not seen a beautiful building in his life.'

From the Desk of the Director:

Dear Friends of the Museum,

This past week we met with Dr. Scott Moffatt to discuss the construction of modular display cases. These cases would allow the Museum to set up exhibits in universities and other institutions that may not own their own cases, in addition to allowing the Museum to setup our own exhibits to be displayed in the Biola Professional Building Conference Room. The construction of these cases would help pursue the mission and goal of this Museum by allowing us to install more exhibits in more places, which will lead to a greater presence in the Southern California community and the eventual establishment of a permanent Museum location.

These cases, five in total, would be made in a way to allow them to be taken apart for transport. Their design will be reminiscent of many of the cases used at institutions like the Getty Museum and the Huntington Library. Every case will have the capacity to display Torah Scrolls, as well as other artifacts, allowing for versatility in exhibits and displays. The total cost for each case is approximately $1,000 and with the commission of five cases, brings the total cost to $5,000.

We bring this to your attention as we are beginning the process of fundraising, and ask if any of you would consider donating any sum to help fund this project. We firmly believe that these cases will help strengthen the Museum’s mission and advance the goal to educate and inspire. We ask you to please prayerfully consider this request and if you have any questions regarding this project please feel free to contact us. If you would like to donate, checks can be made out to the Museum of Biblical and Sacred Writings.

Warm Regards,

George Giacumakis
Director

All of these left behind abundant evidence of extensive maritime activity and habitation along the coas…
