This magnificent flag belonged to the Carey family of La Grange and now hangs in the stairwell at the Historical Society. It dates from early 1818 before Illinois became the 21st state and before Congress mandated that the flag would have 13 stripes and 20 stars, with a new star being added upon the admission of a new state into the union. The flag was donated to us by their grandson, Eugene Bailey, and we are grateful and proud to be able to display it for the community to enjoy.
