Kyle Railroad Depot and Heritage Center The beautifully restored 1917 railroad depot in Kyle, Texas
Open Saturdays from 10am-2pm

The Kyle Railroad Depot & Heritage Center has been restored and will be open on Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM and at other times by special appointment with a telephone call to 512-262-1188 or email to [email protected] for information. Inside the 1917 building you will find two waiting rooms with period furnishings and a documentary on the founding of Kyle by the International & Great Northern Railroad at a land auction in 1880. The Station Master's office has been restored and an audio loop with train announcements and station master comments helps create the realistic feel of the station. The freight room is an open space for on and offloading goods such as cotton and livestock but also doubles as an area for program and school gatherings outside normal operating hours. Outside is the platform with our own mail catcher pouch crane and 1929 wooden caboose which is also open during normal operating hours.

🎃 Greetings Ghosts and Ghouls 👻

Continuing our busy October, we will indeed be open for Founder's Day this Saturday the 10th with our specialty cookies featuring famous locales from around Kyle, including yours truly. If you need any directions just follow the parade, it ends where Kyle began after all.

Due to Halloween falling on Saturday, we'll be having two frightful days this year: October 24th, coinciding with the City of Kyle's Center Street Trick or Treat, AND October 31st. We'll be handing out candy, dressed in spooky attire, showing old cartoons and movies, and of course tours.

Also beware La Gente Que Vota, mysterious beings from beyond who seek to cast inscribed scrolls for mysterious people they've only seen on moving picture boxes. Sounds crazy, you'd best not disturb them or else fall victim to casting scrolls yourself 🗳

Busy month for us, October is. Hope you see y'all around!

Howdy folks, ITO Tony here,

During our Halloween event these past few years, I've been setting up the movies and cartoons in the Fr[e]ight Room, but I understand many of y'all may be busy with us being open around midday, would y'all prefer a more open Freight Room that's decorated or should I keep up with the films?

Since our Depot closed its doors in 1965, I've been ensuring our cartoons and films don't exceed that date, but I want to make sure there's people who are okay with their tykes sticking around for a cartoon short or two, otherwise it ends up being an underutilized room. If it's something to avoid or if y'all just like having as an option during your visit I'd like to know. I can also ask about extending the films to the entire 20th century which I can accommodate, though the decision will ultimately come down to the Chair.

Let me know so I can have it set up or have the room decorated in time and thanks in advance to those who provide insight.
