Gallery 133

Gallery 133 Message Jennifer Barnes or Chryseis Dawn Patterson for more information. Welcome to Gallery 133, we got our start in September 2011 at 133 S.

Gay Street (no longer there) in Downtown Knoxville. From the beginning we were focused on promoting art in Knoxville but not at the expense of the local artists. A typical gallery wants a large commission from their artists when something is sold, they want to eliminate the actual artists from interacting with their fans and limit the opportunities that artists would have to expand except by showi

ng with them; however, in return those type of galleries will put the upmost effort into getting as many different people in to see the artists work, have great hours and promote for the artists and this is a good system that works and will continue to be a great resource for some local artists. There are several ways that Gallery 133 is different:
1. The most important is we accept all, we do not determine what is or what isn’t art, we don’t feel we have the right to judge someone’s work as acceptable. We push the envelope, we are edgy, out of the box, different--Michael Gill said we were “the most provocative art gallery in town”—we will gladly accept that and add to it. We want to be the art gallery in town where we challenge the average person’s concept of art. We want everyone who sees our events to walk away thinking, one way or the other, good or bad, we will accept that as well. This does not mean we do not show traditional types of art, we feel there is room for all!
2. We strongly believe EGOS should be left at the door, the word “exclusive” is not in our vocabulary, we want to be the art gallery for EVERYONE—not just a certain type of person. If an artists wants to be in a more exclusive type of gallery we commend them and hope it works well but that is not the goal or desire of Gallery 133.
3. We believe in LOVE—we believe in SUPPORT, mutual PROMOTION, we believe as a team we will get further than as individuals, that is our bond and our goal. We believe in ourselves and in each other. We are not just an art gallery, WE ARE FAMILY !!! So what is your obligation to your new family—Love, Support and Promotion! We only have Facebook to advertise so we work it and we work it hard. We like, comment and share, we invite our friends not just share events; we build each other up and help in the growth area as an artists and as a person. We realize that to have a good art show the work has to flow and so we might not have all the pieces we want to show exhibit at that show in order to make room for others to show as well, we also understand that our work might not be side by side but places in a way to make the whole exhibit ROCK!. We are responsible and want the gallery to prosper so we don’t depend on others to do all the promotion, or to bring all the hanging material –we are not freeloaders, we don’t take advantage, and we give to grow. We support and promote those who support and promote us –our sponsors like the Gills, Jennifer Ratcliff, David Dewhirst and the Preservation Pub. We are responsible for being on time and ready to hang to our hanging parties so others do not have to wait (or we notify what our situation is so others can help us), we are also responsible for our art work and don’t just leave it to the Gallery to have to deal with it and it is understood if we don’t pick up our work in a reasonable amount of time then it will be the property of the Gallery to dispose of as the Gallery sees fit after three months. Welcome to the family! By signing I agree to abide by the tenets of Gallery 133. Date ________________________
