The regular meeting of the Knox Historical Society will be held Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Knox Town Hall. We hope you can join us. For more information call Dennis Barber, President, at (518) 860-7861.

The Saddlemire Homestead will be open on Sunday, July 14 from 2-4p.m. Jay Francis will be presenting a program about the five generations of his family who have lived in Knox. Refreshments will be served.

Monday, May 28. Knox Memorial Day Parade.
The Saddlemire Homestead (Knox Museum) will be open from 10 to 1. Come browse our many exhibits depicting early life in the Pillbox Capital of the world while awaiting the arrival of the parade which begins at noon. The Memorial Day ceremony takes place on the lawn in front of the Knox Town Hall. Students will read the winning essays in the essay contest sponsored by KHS on the topic "Local and Family Military Heroes."

Local historian and author, Bruce Dearstyne, will speak about the Erie Canal. Bruce is the author of The Spirit of New York which details dramatic turning points in New York State's history. The building and opening of the Erie Canal was one such moment.
Bruce's talk is being held in conjunction with an exhibit on the Erie Canal, on display in the library community room from April 16-May 4.

We are all familiar with the stone walls that border fields throughout the countryside. Matt Bua has been gathering information about stone walls in the Catskill Mountains. His theory of why some of them are there and who built them differs from the classic Euro-American theory. Attend this program to learn more. Mr. Bua published the book, Talking Walls: Casting Out the Post Contact Stone Wall Building Myth of the American Northeast with a focus on Catskill, New York.
September 22 (Friday), Benjamin Franklin will be appearing at the BKW School Auditorium, 7pm. Listen to him tell his fascinating life story and take a selfie with him! Sponsored by the Knox Historical Society in collaboration with the BKW Social Studies Dept and made possible by a grant from the BKW PTA. Refreshments will be served. A photo display honoring the late Dan Driscoll has been installed in the Town Hall lobby. The photos highlight the diverse interests of Dan. A resident of Knox for over 40 years, Dan shared his expertise in music, science, gardening, and history with many community groups, ranging from the Kiwanis Club of the Helderbergs, Knox Traditional Strings, Delmar Community Orchestra, Hudson Mohawk Land Conservancy,and the Knox Historical Society. The photos will be displayed for several months.

History of Albany Main Railroad – Thursday, February 16 @ 7 p.m. at the Berne Public Library
Interested in area railroads and their history? John Valachovic is presenting a program on the “Albany Main” Line at the Berne Public Library. John's presentation covers the history of the railroad from around 1850 to 1950. This rail line ran from Kenwood Yard in Albany, through Delmar, Voorheesville, and Altamont, ending in Delanson.

Sunday, November 6. KHS is once again going to try to accomplish more brush removal in the Ostrander Cemetery. Helpers will meet at Town Hall at 10 am to car-pool to the site, since the owner does not want a lot of cars up in there. Please direct any questions to Dennis at 860-7861.
Experience the Spooky Museum Tour at the Berne Museum, located at the Berne Town Hall, from 1:30-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 30. Refreshments will be served.
Maureen Driscoll views the Helleburg Fife and Drum display currently up in the Knox Town Hall. The display honors Dan Driscoll,organizer and music master of the Corps, and other community members who were a part of this music group. The exhibit will be on display for a limited time period.
