TEETERS LANDING, c. 1909

Klamath County Museum’s photo of the week for October 4, 2026, is an image of Teeter’s Landing, a major transportation hub on the Klamath River in the early 1900s.

Teeters Landing was named for Harvey and Emily Teeters, who built up the landing when they settled on the Klamath River just southeast from Keno on the bend of the river.

Laird’s Landing on the south end of Lower Klamath had been the primary shipping point for many years, but when the railroad arrived in Butte Valley, Teeters Landing became the closest landing for shipping.

It remained an important hub until the railroad arrived in Klamath Falls in 1909.

On October 1st 2026 Klamath Music and Cherry Blossom Boutique joined us at the Klamath County Museum for Under Klamath Skies!

Music, art, and fashion have always been true forms of self expression throughout history and we couldn't be more proud of the showcase that turned out for this event.

Roger Jaeger and Micah Lambert put on an entertaining show and experience for over 400 folks coming in and out of the Klamath County Museum.

Special thanks to food and refreshments brought to attendees by Mia and Pias, Summit 4100, ... but make it dirty soda bar, and Sweet and Savvy.

Flood the comments with your pictures from Under Klamath Skies!

Our third spotlight on folks that make the Klamath County Museums "go" is... Matt!

"I work with the museum's registration technicians to ensure all the artifacts are protected and catalogued."

Matt is onsite daily, though you may see him in the community representing the Shaw library, refereeing football, and running the Snake War Lecture series here at the Museum.

Klamath County Museum’s photo of the week is a photograph of Sheriff Lloyd Low, who served as the Klamath County Sheriff from 1921-1925, and again from 1929-1949.

He was the second longest-tenured sheriff after Red Britton’s 25-year tenure. Low experienced a memorable moment in March 1932 when he rescued a large number of abandoned animals, including fifty foxes, on a ranch near Modoc Point.

The abandonment of the ranch occurred when the owner hired a man to take care of all the animals. The owner then left town and gave no timeline for his return. The hired man grew tired of the work and wrote letters to the owner, saying he was ready to quit, and that the owner needed to return. After sending multiple letters and a final notice, to which the owner never responded, the hired man walked away from the ranch.

Luckily, Sheriff Low arrived to save all the animals, which included cows, pigs, sheep, dogs, chickens, and foxes. Low personally hired someone to care for the animals until arrangements could be made to rehome them.

Because of acts like this, Low served as sheriff for over twenty years.
