AMERICA REMEMBERS – It is with great sadness we learn the news that Normandy D-DAY veteran and superstar, Private First Class Russell Pickett has died. He was 94. Known as the last survivor of Company A of the 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Division, he was part of the charge 75 years ago on to Omaha beach. A chaotic bloodbath, it became known as the “suicide wave” and was made infamous by the Hollywood film Saving Private Ryan. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones. We are so thankful such men lived.

Make the Connection

When Arthur returned home from Vietnam, he felt as if no one understood what he had been through — so he kept his experiences to himself. Holding so much inside led to anger and eventually affected Arthur’s relationships. Feeling helpless, Arthur reached out to VA to begin a PTSD treatment program. Some volunteers asked me to meet with them the other day outside Starbucks. I went, and I was not wearing a mask but was standing 6 feet from the entrance. I was also wearing my 101st Airborne hat. While I was waiting outside (not even in their store & 6 feet away!) they came out and told me I have to leave the premises. They didn't give me a reason why, but I think it was because I am a veteran.

So I decided to come back with my Dunkin Donuts cup to let them know where I stand.

Guys, if you are going to buy coffee don't buy Starbucks. They hate our gun rights, they support Marxism, and they kicked a veteran off of their premises. #BuyDunkinDonuts #NoStarbucks #Buck2020

This poster that I made to take to DC, for Memorial Day Weekend, 2017, was placed at The WALL on Thursday and Friday of that week, but I picked it up each afternoon to keep it from getting messed up. I put it out again on Saturday because I had wanted to present it to Cantu (that's what Eric prefers to be called) right there in front of The WALL. When it became evident the rain was coming, I boxed the poster back up, and went searching for him, and he was easy to find, as usual, right there at the first vender's booth on Thunder Alley. This was one of the most touching moments of my trip, because just before this scene occurred, "I SAW A HERO CRY". Cantu broke into tears as his wife lifted the poster out of the box and he saw that it was about him. I had already phoned Carol so she would know what to expect. Once Cantu regained his composure, and the sun came back out, we took several pictures together, near the entrance to "Thunder Alley", As he showed the poster to everyone around us, I explained that it was on behalf of "The NAM" page (which I am an admin on) for all that he does to preserve the memory of our fallen warriors. Eric Cantu and his wife, Carol, have the GI Joe Living Military Museum in Kinston, NC, and when they returned home, after the trip, my poster was placed in his museum, and I am proud to say that it is still there today. Eric and I have been close friends for five years now, and I can truthfully tell you, "There ain't many like him!" (Bill Roach)
