We are doing another fashion class for ages 12-15 next Sunday, Feb 25! Having learned that the format of last week’s class worked really well, we have changed the duration to be 10am to 1pm. It’s called ‘Designing a Collection’ and will focus on the elements used to build a fashion collection, including establishing a color palette and a theme, choosing fabrics, drawing silhouettes, and designing a cohesive set of garments. This is a great opportunity for a fashion-curious kid to see what a day in the life of a real fashion designer is like…

Happy Lunar New Year! We are currently hosting this sumptuous painting, titled ‘Chinese New Year Parade’, by Rosendale-based artist Kristina Pavlov-Leiching , as the year of the dragon gets underway. Kristina is an accomplished painter of landscapes as well as market scenes like this one, and more of her work can be found at www.artbykipl.com. She will also be offering a series of after-school art classes for kids on Fridays at Pinkwater Studio this April! We are planning to do more of these “corridor” shows with emerging artists in the months ahead, as well as open studios tours later this spring. Stay tuned!

In this workshop, your tween will get a taste of what it’s like to design a garment, from selecting fabrics to making a mood board, drawing flats, and using a croquis to make their design come alive. Link to register in the profile, or go to www.pinkwatergallery.com/classes. Our teacher is Kristin Flynn, former head apparel designer at Nike and the founder of the fashion design program at SUNY Ulster.

Do you have a fashion-obsessed or fashion-curious tween or teen in your household? In that case, we have some great classes coming up in February that you won’t want to miss! Your fashion kid can learn how clothes are designed, even what it might be like to be a fashion designer, by practicing drawing using a “croquis” (template), formulating their design as a “flat” (sketch), putting together a “mood board” (inspiration), selecting a “swatch” (fabric) and putting together a “color story” (palette)! Taught by Kristin Flynn, a former head designer at Nike as well as the founder of the fashion design program at SUNY Ulster, these workshops are a great way to spend a Sunday morning and a safe space in Uptown Kingston for ages 12+… register today at the Classes page on our website! Thank you to everyone who came out on Saturday for our gallery [temporary] closing party!! It was so wonderful to see folks who have come in faithfully since 2019, especially to those of you who started or expanded your art collections over the years with us, as well as new friends who just discovered the gallery and it’s mission of spotlighting . Some good news… we will still be here in when we reopen at the beginning of summer with at 237 Fair Street! Also… more good news, our wonderful space has been leased to who will be opening later this year with an incredible concept whose mission “is to normalize zero waste shopping for ALL people” in our old home at 56 North Front Street. Cool! All I can say is WOW, is an amazing and inspiring place! I am humbled and grateful to you all! (And thank you to the buyer of my piece ‘Child’s Play | Still Life’, I’m so glad she’s found a good home!!)

With the gallery temporarily closing after Monday, I would be remiss if I didn’t celebrate the work of my mother, textile artist Suzanne Sanger

I have been showing her work since nearly the beginning and it’s been an honor and a privilege to do so. She has been a consistent best seller, with folks from all walks of life enjoying her very personal, tactile and inventive little masterpieces. The works pictured here are on view through Monday at the gallery, thereafter available for purchase only through the website. She also makes wildly popular little art cards, of which we still have a bunch!

‘Electronique | La Musique’ by yours truly , 48” x 60” acrylic on canvas, inspired by the inimitable badass Kim Gordon, who was playing in my headphones throughout, and by the wondrous colors of the sea!

One last chance to see it this weekend… we will be open 11-6 on Friday and Saturday, 12-5 on Sunday and Monday. Oh, and there’s also the Kingston Social pop-up shop happening at the gallery as well. Hope to see you then or at the gallery closing party on Saturday 5-7pm. Do come and help me toast the four+ years at 56 N. Front Street and all the fabulous artists who have showed their work here since 2019!

In this last week before closing the gallery (temporarily) to prepare for the opening of this summer, I will be posting images of the various series of collages, pastel drawings, fashion illustrations and abstract paintings that I completed in the past year. Taking a look back helps me to move forward as an artist, and all of these works are on view at pinkwatergallery.com and at the gallery at 56 N. Front Street this coming weekend, Jan 12-15. Moving forward is something I am looking forward to exploring at my new studio in Uptown Kingston this year. I hope to see you at our closing party this Saturday Jan 13 5-7pm at 56 N. Front Street!

About Pinkwater Gallery

Pinkwater Gallery is the brainchild of abstract artist Anne Sanger, who conceived of this physical space as a showcase for her own work as well as that of other abstract artists in the Hudson Valley and Catskills area and beyond.

The gallery’s philosophy is that the art world should not be so intimidating and that living with original art in one’s home is the only way to live! The art featured in Pinkwater Gallery’s shows and on the website are accessible and affordable, the objective being to encourage someone to make their very first art purchase at the gallery.

New exhibits are mounted every other month and of course, the website is always open! Go to the website at www.pinkwatergallery.com to learn more about upcoming events and shows and to peruse art available for purchase.
