I, AL, did not have time to take as many pics as I would have liked to of the workday, occasionally I have to actually help on stuff. Fortunately Philip Walker caught the stuff running with videos. However other things were done, like the guys installing an oogah horn on Charlotte's model T, Old Pete II being moved from the car storage box to the Airplane hanger, some of the stuff that had been getting in the way in the garage maintenance area was then moved to the car storage area, more library work was done but no heavy lifting needed. Still got kinda hot in the PM that ended my day.... is it late August or September? I forget. However, there seems to be an "edge" to the heat that is getting softer and the mornings are a tad more tolerable. Next week will be better, I promise...we are tipping away from the Sun aren't we?

DR 1 got a a run up also by the guys! Another Philip Walker video! Note the cowling is inspired by Werner Voss who flew one of the two pre-production F.1 triplanes. The 109th anniversary of his death in battle in this plane is just a few days away. He was killed in action September 23, 1917 after gaining 11 victories in the aircraft in less than a month. The Dr 1 triplane that followed the two F.1's was the production version.

Doolittle and Kelly Field... Notice this will not be the only time when a die roll of 7 would be associated with Doolittle. Can you guess the other time? Orthochromatic film makes the green aircraft look darker and the red "Pair-O-Dice" of the 90th Fighter Squadron (the DH-4B was not a fighter but was used for patrol and such along the Mexican border as well as an "hack" aircraft) appear black but they are actually red (ortho film darkens reds and yellow significantly--lightens blues--it also washes out light blue skies).

The first transcontinental flight across the United States within a single day (24-hour period) was made by Lt. Jimmy Doolittle on Sept. 4, 1922. Flying a DH-4B, Lt. Doolittle took off from Pablo Beach, Fla., and landed at Rockwell Field near San Diego, Calif., covering a distance of 2,163 miles in 21 hours, 20 minutes flying time. He made one refueling stop at Kelly Field near San Antonio, Texas.
