Historic Electric Vehicle Foundation The Historic Electric Vehicle Foundation opened the world's first International Electric Vehicle Museum, The Route 66 Electric Vehicle Museum, 8/15/14

The Historic Electric Vehicle Foundation is a Washington State registered non profit corporation and a member of the National Association of Automobile Museums as well as the Antique Automobile Club of America. The Foundation exists for the prime purpose of education concerning the history of electric vehicles from the nineteenth century up to and beyond the twenty first century as well as preserving examples of these vehicles for all the peoples of the world to enjoy and learn from. We intend to build the world’s first International Electric Vehicle Museum and collect vehicles from around the world for display. Below are some examples of the types of vehicles we will be pursuing for the collection. The collection will contain very rare early electric vehicles for transportation as well as delivery vehicles for commerce. There will be wings dedicated to vehicles such as electric micro cars and performance electric vehicles. We wish to tell the whole story of electric vehicles.

Our first milestone is within reach.

We have raised $350 toward Arizona’s Historic Electric Vehicle specialty plate campaign!

Our next milestone is $1,000 by October 31. If 130 people contribute just $5, we can reach it together.

Funds raised through this campaign will help launch the specialty plate and build future support for electric-vehicle preservation, education and the Route 66 Electric Vehicle Museum.

Donations to HEVF are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

Coffee, Cars & Electric Vehicle History! ☕
Our Historic Electric Vehicle Foundation Board President, Kent Bakke, is participating in a car and EV gathering today in Renton, Washington!

Kent, owner of the Bakke Coffee Museum, is combining his passion for coffee, cars, and history while helping spread the word about HEVF and our Route 66 Electric Vehicle Museum in Kingman, Arizona.

We love seeing the Bakke Coffee Museum proudly displaying its support for our foundation!

From Washington to Route 66, it’s wonderful to see automotive enthusiasts coming together, sharing stories, and celebrating the history and innovation behind electric vehicles.

A big thank you to Kent, Moira and Bakke Coffee Museum for continuing to support our mission!

Exciting Things Are Happening in Mohave County!

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending ContourGlobal’s groundbreaking celebration for Project Sterling in Topock, Arizona. What a fantastic event and an exciting milestone for our region!

Project Sterling is a large-scale solar energy and battery storage development being built right here in Mohave County, near historic Route 66. The project will combine solar power generation with battery technology to store electricity for use when needed.

Beyond the technology, it’s exciting to see the investment, job opportunities, and economic development this project will bring to our region.

As Executive Director of the Historic Electric Vehicle Foundation, I especially appreciate seeing how energy and transportation technologies continue to evolve. Our mission is rooted in preserving the history of electric vehicles while educating future generations about the innovations that have shaped transportation.

A big thank you to the ContourGlobal team for hosting such a wonderful celebration, and congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this project to Mohave County!

It’s always exciting to see our region growing and new opportunities taking shape!

Some of the most fascinating chapters in electric-vehicle history came in very small packages.

Today’s collection spotlight features one of HEVF’s Custer electric vehicles.

The Custer Specialty Company was established in Dayton, Ohio, by inventor Levitt Luzern Custer. Beginning in the early 20th century, the company developed a range of compact vehicles, including small city cars, industrial carriers, children’s cars and electrically powered mobility chairs.

Custer’s designs show that electric power was being adapted for many different transportation needs long before today’s modern EVs. These unusual vehicles also remind us that innovation does not always come from the largest manufacturers or the most famous automobiles.

Preserving vehicles like this allows us to share the broader—and sometimes unexpected—story of electric transportation.

Have you ever seen a Custer electric vehicle before?
