Celebrating Dario Campanile

Originally from Rome, Dario Campanile came to Lahaina Galleries in the 1980s and brought new prestige, artistic vision, and extraordinary growth to our family company.

Dario’s creativity, skill, and versatility were truly remarkable. As a bedridden child, he began developing his artistic talent through oil painting, revealing a gift that would later captivate collectors around the world. As a young man, he met Salvador Dalí, who famously anointed him “The Roman Master.”

Dario’s career would continue to reach extraordinary heights, including being commissioned to create the 75th anniversary logo for Paramount Pictures.

As we celebrate 50 years of Lahaina Galleries, we proudly honor Dario’s remarkable journey and the artistic brilliance that has shaped the world of fine art for decades.

"Several of my works feature a transparent sphere with a flame at the center. In my metaphorical artistic language, this sphere symbolizes the soul. The part of us that remains spirit-based, and serves as a guide on our journey as humans. In my understanding of spirituality and metaphysics, it is the soul that crystalizes a portion of itself and solidifies to the point of physical manifestation. The process then, of awakening or self-realization, is one of coming into communion with our soul, our higher selves. It is the process of allowing ourselves to be guided by our intuition and passion (the language of the soul) and aligned with the greater aspect of our beings that planned this life and its corresponding themes and lessons we would be experiencing in a given lifetime. It is the point at which we come to realize our eternal nature and unlimited potential – as shown here, in the world of my imagining."

"Carrying a piece of earth in the form of a tree sapling, our intrepid travelers depart the earth on a dream voyage to the stars. For me, this painting represents the desire for a more harmonious existence. As conflicts and crisis on earth seem to be mounting, I believe there are those that hold the dream for another way of being. I can proudly say that I am one of those. Those who envision and strive for a reality where violence and inequality in all forms become a thing of the past. I do not know if or when we might realize that world, but it does not stop me from doing all I can to bring it to fruition. The variety of animals represents the diversity of life on the planet - human and otherwise. And the metaphorical stars harken an ideal world: heaven on earth. The stars “falling” also symbolize my belief that existence/the universe/God is likewise is moving towards this higher ideal. That it is the nature of evolution to become more refined, healthy and balanced. The stars in a sense then, are meeting us part way."
