We loved hosting The Kerrville Life at HHHC! Thanks for spreading the love for what we've worked with our community to create. Come see us anytime Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-4pm.

Tucked inside the gorgeous historic Schreiner house at 529 Water Street, the Heart of the Hills Heritage Center is one of downtown Kerrville's most meaningful attractions.

Executive Director Angela Kennedy walked us through exhibits covering the cultural history, entrepreneurial spirit, music, settlements, railways, ranches, and river history that shaped this region — including a gallery of local artwork inspired by the Guadalupe River and its ongoing story of repair and recovery.

The center also hosts workshops, school field trips, and community events, and their activity room makes it a destination for all ages. If you love Kerrville and want to understand it more deeply, this is where the story lives.

If you are in San Antonio tomorrow night, RSVP for this incredible tribute to Kerr County post July 4th flood. Now that we have just experienced another catastrophic flooding event, this is more relevant than ever. I visited with Brian Gonzalez a few weeks ago about this production and was moved by his desire to honor our community. The 7pm performance is sold out but hope you can make it to the 6pm performance!

Join us on Saturday, July 25th, for Media Arts alum Brian Gonzalez' The Bearer of Dangerous Truths: A large-scale immersive installation built by and for the community of South Texas to commemorate the lives lost in the Kerr County floods.

At the center of the installation is a monumental sculptural wave constructed from reclaimed wood, built by student volunteers from UTSA’s Architecture & Planning department. The structure is surrounded by a collection of small, hand-crafted objects made by SAY Sí Visual Arts students, documented by the Media Arts student filmmakers.

This special exhibition will also feature a live performance from the Children's Chorus of San Antonio with original music from CASA - Composer’s Alliance of San Antonio, to transform the raw warehouse space into something powerful, emotional, and unforgettable.

Due to the flash flood warning in effect until 9:45am, the Heritage Center will not open at 10am today. We will keep you updated on plans to open later today if conditions improve. Hands-on History at 11:30 am will be canceled today as well. Stay safe!

Today we wrapped up a week of Living History Camp at the new Heritage Center! We were excited to welcome some returning campers and many new campers to our new site and the space was perfect for our 20 campers ages 6-11. The kids couldn't get enough of the exhibits, especially the listening stations, plant tracing station, and the tent in the Healing Landscape exhibit. The kids were exposed to hands-on activities indoors and outdoors related to Kerr County history, pre-history, archaeology, and wildlife. Each day's theme was unique and offered something new even for the returning campers. But one constant from previous years was enjoying popsicles at the end of the day, something they looked forward to after each hot morning outdoors. The photos are just a glimpse of all the fun and discovery that happened throughout the week.

We are grateful to the Kerr County Historical Commission for sponsoring the camp and all of the partners who have shared their expertise with the kids. Thank you to Dr. Chris Distel, Sarah Distel, Sheepwalk Ranch, Hill Country Archeological Association, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Janie and Julius Neunhoffer, Mark Stone, Toni Romero Box, Clifton Fifer, Lee Hale, Terry Thiess, and the HHHC Board of Directors. It has been an enriching and engaging experience because of their support.

We can't wait to do it all again next year and already have ideas for how we can expand offer more camps for a broader age range. Thanks to our community for their generosity and continued support that helps make this camp possible.
