The Foundation exists to support the Kernersville Museum, which is operated by the Town of Kernersville. The mission of the Kernersville Museum Foundation is: “To Promote the collection, pre

servation and educational interpretation and display of those artifacts, documents and events most representative of the Town of Kernersville – its prehistory and history, its people and institutions, its cultural and economic development.”

We achieve this through a variety of fundraising activities, special events. volunteer efforts, and community engagement. The Kernersville Museum Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization managed by a local board of directors.

🔎 Discover the history of Kernersville! Kernersville Museum celebrates our community by reviving local history and sharing the stories that connect us to our roots.

Open Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and the 2nd Saturday from 10am-1pm.

The museum is located at 109 S. Cherry St. in Kernersville on the corner of Cherry and Mountain.

Happy 13th birthday to us!!! The Kernersville Museum Foundation was officially established on August 14, 2013. We are grateful to all of our board members and supporters past and present. We couldn’t have done it without our Kernersville community. Here’s to the next 13 years and beyond!

The Honeybee Festival is coming August 15, y’all! With that, there’s some sweet history. Check out the graphic to see some old memorabilia and photos. You can also learn about the history of the Honeybee Festival, which began in 1975!

Fun fact: in 1973, the Honeybee became North Carolina’s state insect thanks to the advocacy of Brady Mullinax, a Kernersville resident.

The Kernersville Honeybee Festival is a longstanding, popular tradition. The Kernersville Museum is proud to be home to some of the memorabilia from over the years, including footage of the 1986 Honeybee Festival.

Venture out and enjoy on August 15. Remember the name Brady Mullinax as you meander through 4th of July Park.

Highlights with Heidi: Story Time Edition

Watch the reel to hear the Gaffney ledger article from December 25, 1930 about the “cream of Virginia’s bootleggers” that just so happened to be a woman and her Kernersville arrest by Chief Fontaine.

Fun fact: $200 in 1930 would have roughly $4,000 buying power today, but Chief Fontaine wasn’t playing around. Way to be, Chief!

Dunlap the stuffed elephant was sold at Pinnix Drug Store during the 1950s and still has the original price tag on him for $2.99. Dunlap is a well-loved attraction on exhibit at the Kernersville Museum.

It’s important to note that Pinnix Drug Store was a prominent business in Kernersville, North Carolina, operating for 76 years from its opening in 1904 until its closure in 1986. Established by J.M. “Neighbor” Pinnix, the store was a popular gathering place in Kernersville. The pharmacy actually filled over 2,000,000 new prescriptions over the decades.

Come into the museum to meet Dunlap, see more objects from Pinnix Drug Store, and leave with a beautiful piece of your own Dunlap artwork. Who doesn’t love a coloring page?!

Here’s a look back at the Kernersville Museum History Day event with the Kernersville Police Department, Kernersville Fire and Rescue Department, and Huntington Bank! And a special thanks to Kernersville Parks and Recreation for supplying a Porta Potty!

It was a GREAT day at the Kernersville Museum and fun was had by all.

There’s no water to be found, but History Day is STILL happening TODAY from 3pm-6pm. There will be a Porta Potty onsite for attendees of the event!

Please note that the parking lot on the corner of Cherry St. and Mountain St. will close at 1pm to be able to accommodate the emergency vehicles. Parking can be found in other places surrounding the Kernersville Museum Complex.

There will be a limited number of goodie bags for the first to arrive sponsored by the Kernersville Museum Foundation and ice pops sponsored by Huntington Bank until supplies run out.

It’s going to be a great day so come out and learn about the history of Kernersville with some of our very own KVL heroes!

Imagine stepping into the Dunlap Springs ballroom on a warm summer evening in 1926. On the night of July 29, 1926, the ballroom at Dunlap Springs Hotel came alive with the sounds of the Carolina Serenaders as guests gathered for one of the resort's popular summer dances and even held a contest dance. Visitors from across the Piedmont spent the evening dancing and socializing.

Throughout the 1920s, events like these made Dunlap Springs one of the region's favorite resort destinations for mineral spring bottled water drinking, entertainment, recreation, and weekend getaways.

Unfortunately, later on in October of 1929, the Wall Street Market crashed and the Great Depression began. What was once known as a hot spot in Kernersville, Dunlap Springs fell on hard times, and was sold at public auction in the early 1930s. The rest is history.
