JUNETEENTH 2021, PART XV

Can you catch lightning and put it in a bottle? Can you capture the wind and put it in a box? Can you bottle up the ocean in a glass bottle. Queen Nanny is like a force of nature. The slave catchers caught her, but they could not control her. We told her story last week and now we're offering up other perspectives and information on Nanny, as well as a recap of last week's livestreams. Check it out.

Sweet Honey in The Rock - Wade in the Water

Trying something different today. Let me know what you think. Posting up a link to the Kofi Khemet Youtube Channel on Civil Rights. With a new sheriff in town, AKA Old Joe Slow Crow I think this will be the year that Civil Rights come back to the forefront. We'll see! With a battered economy and raging pandemic ravishing the countryside, will we be able to focus on Civil Rights this year? Maybe at the end of the year we'll be asking how could we not focus on Civil Rights? I'm predicting a resurgence of the Black Power Movement of the 1960's with a concurrent resurgence of the White Supremacy Movement of the 1860's. What will make this era standout will be the advent of the Internet, Social Media and high-powered automatic weapons. Join the discussion and help us come up with solutions to some of the most important questions of the day.

DOC AKH INTERVIEWS DARRYL CROSBY - CREATOR OF KINARA'S CHILDREN 12-31-2020

If you haven't heard about Kinara's Children yet, now's the time to make yourself familiar with some original characters, made in our own image. Created by Darryl Crosby, he has brought the Nguzo Saba to life.

We're starting off the new year with an interview we did on Kuumba 2020 with Kinara's Children creator Darryl Crosby. Darryl very generously donated some of ...

Ella Fitzgerald - Round Midnight

We had a good run in 2020, but it was a difficult year. Now we're here in the midnite hour, 1st minute of a new day and we're moving towards that new day with much hope for the future. Tonight we want to reflect on prospects for the upcoming year and the new decade. Last night was the end of the previous decade, as well as the end of last year. With that in mind, our featured presenters for the day are Michelle Alexander, Sherilynne Ifill and Jelani Cobb, talking about what needs to be done in regards to the crimes of the criminal justice system. We'll also be touring "The New Jim Crow Museum," at Ferris State University, in Northern Michigan with David Pilgrim, the founder of the museum. COVID 19 will be a major focus for many, but our pandemic stretches back to the year Columbus 1st sailed the ocean blue. The day we forget how our lives changed on that day, is the day it's all over for us. Consider this to be a reminder, a call to arms, if you will.

KWANZAA IN KENT 2020 REWIND

If you missed our presentation of Kuumba last night, here's your chance to catch up, before we do our final Kwanzaa presentation later tonight, for Imani. Typically, Imani is a time of reflection that is done at home. However, this is no typical year, so we decided to offer up a selection of reflective messages tonight, including a panel discussion on "The New Jim Crow," with Michelle Alexander, Jelani Cobb and Sherilynne Ifill; followed by a tour of "The New Jim Crow" Museum with the creator of the museum. But, I digress. Let's enjoy the dynamic presentations for Kuumba 2020. Tonight we're featuring two of my teachers Sheree Seretse and Ephat Mujuru. Ephat's now playing mbira for the ancestors, but Sheree is still slamming with some of the most dynamic Marimba groups in the US. We will also be featuring an interview with artist Darryl Crosby, who has created some of the artwork we've featured throughout Kwanzaa 2020 from his Kinara's Children Collection and poet/musician Gil Scot-Heron, in concert. 2020 was a difficult year, were just trying to give a different perspective on the year and keep the home fires burning, until better days arrive. Enjoy!

As we attempt to clear the air and make the Nguzo Saba relevant we come to Nia, the night of Kwanzaa dedicated to purpose. This principle can be somewhat elusive, but the segment we've included from Cleveland's Phoenix Academy was very powerful, as Kwa Whitaker explained why names are so significant. Pay attention to what he has to say in regards to purpose and how we can determine what our purpose is, in life!!

For Trade in Frankincense, Harvesters Risk Life and Tree Limb

From the rooter to the tooter, what we're dealing with today is a "baaaad" motorscooter. We're going all the way Black to the source of the raw materials needed for us to live this modern lifestyle we live and look at how much the suppliers are being paid, compared to how much we pay as the end users. We are not going to discuss ways to solve the problem, instead we'd like to propose that those who see these videos think of some possible solutions, so that our brothers and sisters overseas can live a little better, while being able to feed, clothe and house their families. Please feel free to share your thoughts.

For millennia, Somalilanders have risked their lives to harvest sap of the frankincense tree for international export to be used in churches, French perfumes...

DOC AKH’S STORYTIME TRAILER

Let's use our time wisely, by spending more of it actively engaged with our children. Being in the same room while each of us plays with our personal electronic devices does not count. Playing games, doing puzzles, sharing stories, those things count. As our quarantine days become weeks and possibly months we'll be sharing some of our favorite children's bedtime stories, starting on April 1st. Hopefully, you'll share some of yours too.

Blakfacts delivers old stories in a fresh way via our Youtube channel, FB and our website. This one is from our Blakfacts Challenge that's part of our Black History Month Jubilee celebration. That's right it was 50 years ago that Black History Month was first celebrated. It all started at Kent State University and Dr. Edward W Crosby was the person who made it all possible. He could not have done it without the backing of the Black United Students and the cooperation of Dean Milt Wilson, Jr. For more about the cash and prizes you can win by participating in the Blakfacts Challenge by subscribing to our Youtube Channel and our website, www.blakfacts.org

It's that time again. Time to pony up whatever coins you have laying around your bedroom and send some to Blakfacts Educational Research, Inc. Some charities try to save lives, we're trying to expand the minds of those who are alive. The ancient Egyptian axiom "Know Thyself," is one of our mottos. Without knowledge of self we end up doing things that are against our own interest. Blakacts works with the youth. Give a little and we'll give it our all!

If this seems like a misspelling of Wakanda, it's not. This is the name a real African tribe in East Africa of over 4 million people. This film came premiered in 1955 as a docudrama with lots of footage in Africa, something Tarzan never did.

BLAKFACTS FUNDRAISER #3

We're still at it, creating new content for children of all nations to understand why Black folks should demand reparations. You see we haven't been sitting idly by watching the world go 'round. We've been active participants in the history of every nation. Help us spread the word by donating something, be it ever so small. In turn we're offering all who donate a little more, from $10 up, some premium gifts, like the ones in this video. It's easy to donate. Just click our profile pic/donation button to be directed to the donation link. The one with all the coins at the bottom.

It's that time of year. They say it's better to give than receive, well that's what we're asking you to do today. You'll find a link to one of our fundraising pages below and can use it to make your tax-deductible donation. Don't do it for me, do it for the youth. They need our support, now more than ever. Every tree needs roots, yet our youth have no clue as to what has been done to get us to where we are today. Help us help the youth help themselves to rise above what's expected of them.

The past and the future meet in the present. We're not looking for a Christmas present, just enough money to present more Blakfacts to our loyal supporters. We had planned another trip to Germany, a part of the world where most people would not expect to find Black History. Unfortunately, we've come up short on funds and are asking for your help to bring some of this little known history to life. Help us out. Every little bit counts. We have a ticket in hand, so all donations will be used for accommodations and transportation. Our upcoming trip will focus on the German Heartland of Bavaria.
