New traveling exhibit alert! Visit the To***co Farm Life Museum from May 9th to July 31st to view the traveling exhibit “Navigating Jim Crow: The Green Book and Oasis Spaces in North Carolina.”

Green Books were annually published travel guides meant to help African American motorists navigate Jim Crow segregation. From 1933 to 1963, the Green Book listed over 300 North Carolina businesses, including restaurants, hotels, nightclubs, beauty salons, and more. On loan from the African American Heritage Commission, this exhibit explores the complex statewide network of business owners and Green Book sites that allowed African American communities to thrive, and that created “oasis spaces” for a variety of African American travelers.

Visit us to explore eight vibrant panels, read through reproduction Green Books, and participate in themed activities in the gallery!
