Labor Day weekend ~ Remembering those who have labored for the City Of Keizer through the years!
Keizer Water District was housed with the Keizer Fire District on Chemawa Road. (These organizations were formed before our city was officially established in 1982.)
The old Keizer Elementary School is in the background - a dominant sight for all to see and foundational of Keizer Corner! In 1878 Keizer's one-room schoolhouse was built on this site.
The old Circle K convenience store is now Keizer Florist. 💐

Traveling and finding Keizer history connections at Tule Lake National Monument at the California border. One of the saddest moments in history when Japanese American neighbors and friends were taken away to incarceration centers from 1942-46. 😢🇯🇵🇺🇸

Since 1949 the Keizer News / Keizertimes has been a beacon of publicity for our community. The paper was started by the Keizer Commercial Club (now Keizer Chamber) in 1949. In 1952, Lynn Martin became editor and publisher, followed by Clarence Zaitz in 1963. His sons, Les and Lyndon, would later take on the role with the Keizertimes, which was established in 1979. Les Zaitz and Scotta Callister, his wife, acquired the newspaper in 1987 and subsequently added a digital version.
The final print edition of Keizertimes will be published Friday, Aug. 28, 2026.
The locally owned Keizertimes is merging with Salem Reporter effective Sept. 1 to provide the community more robust coverage and broader reporting on the area, according to an announcement by Les Zaitz, Salem Reporter owner and editor.
