Four Chapter Gallery The Four Chapter Gallery at Christ Community Church is located in the Crossroads Arts District in downtown Kansas City.

Our gallery is open from 2-4pm tomorrow, June 20! Our curator, will be hanging out in the gallery, and would be thrilled to show you around this incredible exhibit. Lauren's work invites contemplation and wonder, and open hours are a wonderful opportunity to spend some extended time taking in the artwork, in a quiet setting. Our current show, The Divine Darkness, is a solo show from traditional printmaker Lauren Stevens, who works within the desert terrain of Tempe, Arizona. Informed by her ongoing study of Biblical symbolism and the prophetic visions, her practice allows her to tactically engage with ancient writings in a manner that is personal and ritualistic. The resulting artworks are her visual expressions of both reverence and investigative curiosity. Stevens recently received her Masters in Fine Arts degree from Arizona State University after studying etching at the Kansas City Art Institute.
The Divine Darkness will be on exhibit in our gallery through the end of August, with opportunities to see the artwork on Saturdays from 2-4pm (with the exception of July 4) and on Friday, August 7 from 5:30-9pm.

Friday night was a dream! Having here in person to share so much about her work was incredible, and her artist talk was so full of moments of wonder at the glory of God, rich education on the history of printmaking, and deep joy in the gathering of community. The room was bustling with kids running around, friends catching up, and so many conversations around Lauren’s art and the God it points to.
If you weren’t able to join us on Friday, our gallery will be open every Saturday from 2-4pm this summer, with the exception of July 4. We hope you’ll make time to come and view this body of work.

Today is First Friday! Our gallery is open from 5:30-9pm for an opening reception of The Divine Darkness, a solo show by traditional printmaker Lauren Stevens. Light refreshments will be served all evening, and we’ll have an artist talk at 6:30pm. We hope you’re able to join us tonight!
We will also be open every Saturday this month, from 2-4pm. If you’re not able to join us for our First Friday reception tonight, we hope you’ll be able to make it out to an open hours, which are a wonderful time to view the work in a quiet setting.

This Friday, we’re hosting an opening reception for The Divine Darkness, a solo show from traditional printmaker Lauren Stevens. Our doors will be open from 5:30-9pm, with light refreshments provided. Lauren will be giving an artist talk at 6:30pm, followed by a Q&A. Our opening receptions are a wonderful time to take the work in, and we’re always extra excited to have the artist with us in person.

This week, we installed our next show in the gallery, and it is absolutely stunning. The Divine Darkness is a solo show from traditional printmaker Lauren Stevens, featuring a collection of her MFA thesis work as well as illustrations she created for a project with Poor Bishop Hooper.
In this body of work, Stevens masterfully explores the uncanny, dreamlike world of the prophets and apocalyptic literature, where the Spirit speaks in images that often feel distant and unfamiliar to modern readers. Stevens brings these images to life, infusing them with all the weird, wild wonder of a world that is being made new in visible and invisible ways. It is a world where humanity is one among many kinds of creatures created to worship and praise God, whose wisdom holds it all together.

Today and tomorrow, we’re installing our next show in the gallery, and we’re so excited about this one! We’re welcoming back Lauren Stevens, for a solo show titled The Divine Darkness. In 2022, Lauren was a part of a two-person show in our gallery, alongside Emily Cramer. Our permanent collection also features two copper etchings by Lauren, which are installed on either side of the stage in our worship center. It’s a joy to welcome her back, and we hope you’re as excited about this show as we are!

Tomorrow is the last opportunity to take in 's senior show, In Tandem! Our gallery will be open from 2-4pm, with our Curator playing host. If you have not yet had a chance to come out and see Sarah's work, we hope to see you there tomorrow!
Next week, we'll be installing our next exhibit, "The Divine Darkness," which is a solo show from traditional printmaker . There's so much rich imagery from the prophets of the Old Testament, and we can't wait to have it up in our space!

Announcing our next exhibit, "The Divine Darkness," which will be opening next Friday, June 5. In this solo show, traditional printmaker Lauren Stevens invites us into spaces of wonder and hope, referencing images from prophetic books like Isaiah that imagine the restoration of order in a cursed world. Stevens seeks to balance personal devotion, worship, and lament in her highly intricate works, inviting us into a Spirit-filled, dreamlike world reminiscent of the Psalms. Please join us for a glimpse of the beauty of God’s story, which we hope will inspire and encourage you in your faith.
We will be hosting an opening reception on Friday, June 5, from 5:30-9pm, with an artist talk at 6:30pm.
