MISSION & VISION
Founded in 1985 by Jim Leedy, with the vision of initiating a permanent and thriving art community in Kansas City; the Leedy-Voulkos Art Center's mission is to profile world class artwork by Kansas City's creative community of painters, sculptors, ceramicists, photographers, designers, printmakers, craftsmen and more. For the past 30 years, we've continued the founder's legacy o

f sharing professional resources with developing artists to help leverage their exposure during monthly First Friday openings. We exhibit compelling shows of international, national, and regional artist, but our main focus is to provide a venue to support students and local artists in order to retain Kansas City's talented creatives. FIRST FRIDAYS
On the first Friday of every month, the majority of galleries and retailers open their doors free of charge to the public to debut new exhibitions or showcase new products. This "block party" draws thousands of visitors through the area in one evening. In the warmer months, gallery-goers can be dazzled by street performers, dine from a food truck, and enjoy live music in the streets. We're open from 6pm-9pm every First FRiday of every month throught the year. For more information, please visit the

Hispanic and Latinx artists taking up space feels especially urgent now more than ever. As undergraduate artists, we are still learning how to make our voices heard and how those voices manifest through our work. Navigating identity in art can be complex. There is often a tension between creating work that reflects who we are and resisting the expectation that our work must center our identity.

Culture inevitably shapes artistic practice. Whether addressed directly or presented more subtly, it informs the perspectives, materials, and stories artists bring to their work. This exhibition embraces that range, highlighting the many ways Hispanic and Latinx artists engage with culture, identity, and personal experience while continuing to define their own creative paths.

Evidence of Touch is a student-curated body of works from the Kansas City Art Institute’s Junior Sculpture class. Each piece offers a glimpse into the individual artists’ unique practices, demonstrating that community doesn’t require uniformity to function harmoniously. The Vault Gallery fosters an intimate negotiation of context, proximity, and influence. Curated through a collaborative process involving accommodation, negotiation, and collective decision-making, the exhibition exists as a demonstration of establishing common ground and a sense of belonging.
