Today I had a client come in for a consultation and ask one of my artists to draw up a tattoo. They explained that they were going to visit several other artists, have each of them draw a version, and then choose whichever design they liked best.

That’s not how we work.

We don’t compete in a drawing contest for the chance to tattoo you.

When you choose an artist, you’re choosing more than someone who can draw. You’re choosing their style, their vision, their experience, and their interpretation of your idea.

A custom tattoo is a collaboration between the client and the artist. You bring us your idea, your references, and what the piece means to you. We bring our experience and creativity, and together we turn that into something designed specifically for you.

If you love another artist’s work and want their vision, absolutely go to that artist. There are a lot of talented tattooers out there, and finding the right artist for your piece is important.

But asking multiple artists to spend hours creating custom artwork so you can decide who “wins” isn’t a consultation—it’s a competition none of us agreed to enter.

We’re not here to audition for your tattoo.

We’re here to create art with you.

Find the artist whose work you trust. Bring them your idea. Let them do what you chose them to do.

That’s where great tattoos come from.
