We have two frighteningly good signature cocktails on offer at our Victorian Macabre: Halloween Spookeasy on October 24.

If you attend Session 1, "How to Murder Like a Victorian," you can enjoy our bloody twist on a Dirty Shirley, Bury the Hatchet. This vodka and ginger ale based drink has a splash of something darker, garnished with a bloody hatchet.

Session 2, "How to Mourn Like a Victorian," features the gin-based Widow's Tears. Gin, lemon, and bitters are transformed with magical color-changing ice.

Some places need a made-up backstory for Halloween. The John Wornall House has history enough of its own.

Visit the museum after hours for an event that delves into the darker side of history. From Victorians' fear of being buried alive to what it was like to be treated at a Civil War battlefield hospital, join us this Saturday.

Alexander Majors found in the wild! Staff recently came across his photograph at the Historic Oxford Schoolhouse. Bound to happen when you are as big a deal as he was.

Built in 1877 at 135th Street and Mission Road, the one-room school served local students for nearly 80 years before closing in 1955. Generations learned their lessons here, long before the surrounding area became the Leawood we know today.

The building’s school days ended, but its story continued. In 2003, the schoolhouse made a different kind of journey: a move to Ironwoods Park. After restoration to its 1877 appearance, it reopened to the public in 2004.
