Glass blower Tyler Kimball is making two large installations by hand for University Health II. The artist notes that the pieces he's making — called rondels — offer fascinating detail close-up and individually, as well as from afar and collectively.

We've got an installation coming up where we'll be making around 450 very intricately designed rondels for an architectural glass curtain that is sure to change the face of Kansas City's Hospital Hill area. It's going to take some time and effort, but it's sure to be worth it! If you stop by Monarch Glass Studio this winter during the production hours, you're likely to catch us in the act of making these components. We love making them, so you'll likely catch us with all smiles too!

Our first class of the fall is underway. Instructor, Alison Siegel is blowing glass and minds in the weekend intro workshop. All the fall classes are filled, but Winter and Spring classes have just been uploaded onto the website for those interested in learning how to blow glass. www.monarchglassstudio.com

Not exactly the most exciting picture, but what this picture means is that we're ramping the furnace back up after taking the summer off to do maintenance work to the equipment, take vacations, and add crew members to the team. We're excited to start blowing glass again and have had a lot of orders come in during the down months, so we'll have our hands full. Come and visit us if you're in town as our hours are back to normal (Except the weekend of September 6th through 8th, where we'll be at the Westport Art Fair).
