Casey was craving a burger. Sloane said, "let's go right now, get in the car"! A short trip to (our neighbors to the South of BrooksideKC). ⭐ The burgers "hit the spot" and were delicious! Sloane got the fresh cut fries. Casey got the onion rings and fries combo. Iced tea for both.

Two notes:

#1 Yes, we forgot to remove our names tags and sat there during our late lunch looking like dorks.

#2 Bendy straws make people happy.

Being honored on 816 Day by the City of Kansas City at the City of Champions Luncheon was a moment we will never forget. To be recognized in the city we love, among so many inspiring people who help make Kansas City what it is, is something we hold with deep gratitude.

We are especially humbled to share that Councilwoman Andrea Bough nominated us for this honor. We are so thankful for her kindness, support, and belief in what we do. Her nomination made this recognition even more meaningful to us.

The event itself was a beautiful celebration of KC culture, creativity, and community pride — exactly the kind of spirit that always inspires us and shapes our work. Seeing the words City of Champions and being part of the 816 Day celebration reminded us just how special this city is and how fortunate we are to be part of its story.

For those who may not know, we’ve spent 29+ years building A STORE NAMED STUFF into a place that celebrates creativity and community. We’ve always believed in putting people over product, in making art and creativity more accessible, and in creating a space that feels welcoming, inclusive, and rooted in connection. To have that work recognized in this way means more than we can say.

The words shared as part of the celebration really resonated with us — especially the idea that the contributions of Kansas City’s champions have a lasting impact on our city. That is the heart of everything we try to do: contribute in a way that is meaningful, community-centered, and lasting.

So today, we want to say thank you.

Thank you to KC for this honor.
Thank you to Councilwoman Bough for the nomination.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us, believed in us, shopped with us, collaborated with us, and cheered us on.

FREE STUFF this weekend during THE DOG DAYS OF SUMMER in 🐾⭐❤

Our shop has always and will always be a DOG FRIENDLY SHOP! We have had three store dogs over the years 29+ years we have been open. Princess Buttercup was here on day one and help getting the place started. She then left the place to The Divine Ms Emma who served for 11 years at our sides. And, most recently, Sir Davis Christopher Chance (Chancey) was running the joint for the last 14 years. Who will come next? We just have to wait and see!

What and where is Brookside? A diamond in the heart of Kansas City for over 100 years, the historic Brookside shops have served the community since 1919. Hundreds of business owners have started their dreams in Brookside and served thousands of customers with a friendly smile and the kind of customer service only a neighbor can provide. The boundaries of the Brookside are Wornall Road to the west, Main Street to the east, 62nd Terrace to the north, and Meyer Blvd to the south.
