Today, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated celebrates Women’s Equality Day with purpose, power, and pride.

As Finer Women, we know equality is not a quiet request. It is a call to lead boldly, serve fiercely, and keep pressing forward until every woman has the freedom, access, and opportunity she deserves.

So today, dress your crown. Wear your power. Strut in your essence. Stand in the legacy of the women who opened to doors, and keep building new ones for those coming behind us.
Because when women rise, communities shift. When women lead, history moves. đź’™

August 26, 2026, is Women’s Equality Day! Today, we celebrate the 106th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote. At Vernon Multipurpose Center, we believe equality thrives when community resources are accessible to everyone. Join us in honoring the trailblazers who fought for equal rights and the leaders shaping our neighborhood today!

We'll start out with the late Mrs. Willie Etta Jennings...
As we look back at national history, we also honor history made right here at home. This year, the Vernon Multipurpose Center remembers the profound legacy of former board member Willie Etta Jennings. Born in 1919, Willie Etta moved to Kansas City just to finish high school because there wasn't a secondary school open to Black students near her home. Graduating from Sumner High, she spent her life fighting Jim Crow segregation, organizing with civil rights groups, and dedicating her time to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and our center. She famously advised the younger generation to "work hard, be honest, and persevere." Today, we carry her torch.

What is ADOPT 2.0?
ADOPT 2.0 is a Kansas digital equity program designed to reduce barriers to internet access by providing devices, digital literacy support, and practical training for work, education, healthcare, and everyday life.

Built and run by The Vernon Center for our Wyandotte County neighbors, the program runs through September 2026 and is open to residents who lack reliable access to a usable device. Approved participants borrow a tablet or laptop at no cost for the duration of the program, plus the workshops and one-on-one help they need to actually use it day to day.
