Position Description
The Museum of Kansas City is seeking Baristas/Culinary Associates for Elixir, the Museum’s soda fountain. Elixir is a 690-square-foot space seating 18–20 guests and is located on the lower level of Corinthian Hall, adjacent to a prep kitchen and near the Billiard Room, restrooms, and a catering kitchen.

We were thrilled to celebrate International Jazz Day on April 30th with Count Basie Orchestra & Creative City KC – Kansas City’s UNESCO City of Music!

Did you know?

In November 2017, the City of Kansas City, Missouri, became a member of the Creative Cities.

Network (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and was designated the first and only Creative City of Music in the U.S. On November 6, 2017, Ms. Irina Bokova, the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), informed the City of Kansas City, Missouri that the City’s application to be recognized as a UNESCO Creative City of Music was accepted.

Creative City KC is a nonprofit organization created to support and sustain the UNESCO Creative City of Music membership for Kansas City, Missouri.

The Museum of Kansas City has been a key program partner to Creative City KC since 2017. Music plays a prominent role in Kansas City’s history and cultural heritage, and the Museum has been designed to offer performances and concerts featuring Kansas City-based musicians and performing artists.

Over the past several years, Museum staff have participated in conversations and initiatives in collaboration with Creative City KC and UNESCO Creative Cities internationally. Programs, meetings, and recordings have taken place at the Museum to advance and promote Kansas City as a City of Music.

The Museum Sessions is a digital series of music that explores the sounds and stories of Kansas City one song at a time. All recordings take place at the Museum.

All Ages, All Abilities – Connect, Explore & Create Together

1. You may pop-in at any point during the workshop timeframe
2. Check-in at the Museum’s admissions desk and go to Café at 3218 on the first floor of Corinthian Hall
3. Children 12 and under must be supervised by an adult
4. No registration
5. After the workshop, enjoy a free House Soda in Elixir, located downstairs.

All ages and abilities are invited to participate in creative, sensory exploration of conventional and unconventional open-ended materials as well as natural objects to create a work to take home or leave at the Museum. These workshops will include materials such as beads, bells, yarn, feathers, and fabric. This is an opportunity for youth, adults, and families to engage, explore, and create together.

About Linda White & The Imagination Play Project
Linda White is from Kansas City, Missouri and is based in New York City. She does pop-up projects around the country in a variety of learning spaces including museums, schools, and community centers. She is the founder and creator of Imagination Play Project. As a play curator, her focus began with young children and has grown to working with people of all ages and abilities. Drawing inspiration from the schools in Reggio Emilia, Italy, and the rich aesthetic landscape of cities, she creates experiences using a variety of objects that encourage exploration, engage the senses, and inspire creativity.

Congratulations to the Boone Theater!

The Vine Street Collaborative team—a local partnership of Shomari Benton, Tim Duggan, and Jason Parson—is jazzed to officially announce the Grand Opening of the historic Boone Theater! After years of being dormant, this cultural cornerstone is ready for its unveiling. More than just a renovation, this project is a reimagined landmark in the historic 18th and Vine Jazz District and a renewed commitment to community investment and development.

When: Friday, May 1, 2026
Where: Boone Theater, 1701 E 18th Street, Kansas City, MO 64108

2:00 p.m. | Program and Ribbon Cutting: Join us inside the theater for a formal program followed by the ceremonial ribbon cutting out front. (Open to the public!)

3:00 to 5:00 p.m. | Community Open House: Explore the history of Boone Theater and its namesake, John W. “Blind” Boone. View student artwork from Lincoln College Preparatory Academy and learn about the theater's future tenants.
