We're excited to welcome everyone to St. Josephs Historic Church Movie Night: Disney's Coco tomorrow evening! Here's a few things to keep in mind if you've never been to St. Joe's.

Not sure how to get there?

St. Joseph's Historic Church is located at 13497 Lower McDowell Creek Rd.

From Junction City/Geary County: take I-70 to exit 307 and head south two miles. The church will be on your left.

From Manhattan: take McDowell Creek Road south, cross the I-70 bridge and continue two miles. The church will be on your left.

Here's a fun portrait you don't see very often--a front AND back view of the subject!

A.D. Jellison didn't just want his front photographed--he wanted his back photographed too! This fun double sided photo of Mr. Jellison is on display in our newest exhibit "Portrait of a County."

Arthur D. Jellison was born June 18, 1876 in Wilson and was in the banking business in Junction City for many years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Junction City and was a Mason and a member of Rotary Club. He also gave $200,000 toward construction of the Rock Springs 4-H Center at Rock Springs in 1971. He and his wife, the late Maude Jellison, also formed the Arthur and Maude Jellison Foundation for college scholarships for young people.

We are looking forward to seeing you this Saturday to watch Disney's Coco at our historic church! We want to give a BIG thank you to the Geary County Convention & Visitors Bureau for helping make this unique event happen. Beautiful scenery, activities, cemetery tours, and of course, watching Coco will be the perfect way to get into the Halloween mood!

We had a great day chatting with community members at Match Day today, and we are blown away by the generosity of our community! We left the event with over $20,000 donated toward the museum elevator project (estimated to be $175,000-225,000!). This is the most we’ve ever received during Match Day and we are so moved by such generous donations.

Today is Match Day, which means today is YOUR chance to help us preserve history! Every dollar donated on Match Day receives a 50% match, which means your money goes further to help your favorite local charities.

How to donate:
Donate online at www.gearymatchday.com today, October 20th, to help us continue preserving history. Online donations can be made 12:00am-11:59pm.

Donate in person at the Junction City Municipal Auditorium 7:00am-5:30pm.

Geary Community Match Day holds incredible opportunity for the Geary County Historical Society to raise desperately needed funds for two important projects.

1) On August 15th, our elevator suffered a catastrophic failure. We now need a complete elevator modernization to keep our building accessible. Current estimates for this project are $175-225,000.

2) In September, we received word that we will once again see another $15,000 budget cut from the County for 2027. This brings us to a $50,000 total budget cut since 2020. Funds from the County ensure our lights are kept on and our staff is paid. We are nearing a financial place where these needs will not be met, so we need help meeting that deficit!

You can help us raise funds for both of these issues by donating to the Geary County Historical Societyfund (for elevator repair) and/or the Geary County Historical Society Endowment Fund (annual budget support). Donations for both goals are so very important to keeping Geary County history alive in our community.

Match Day is a beautiful day for our entire community as much needed funds are funneled into organizations doing good work within our community. Whoever you decide to donate to this Match Day, thank you for believing in Geary County.

We've gotten a few calls and a few questions about the two options on the Match Day form, so here's a graphic to explain where the funds raised will go!

⭐The Geary County Historical Society Endowment Fund is a separate 501(c)3, with it's own governing Board of Directors that focuses on the longevity of the Geary County Historical Society through investment, with the goal of one day being able to entirely self-fund the Historical Society's annual budget. As of 2026, the Historical Society receives roughly 1/3 of it's annual funding from the Endowment Fund, but with your help, this fund could grow and the dream of full support can be attained.

As the Geary County Historical Society faces an additional $15,000 budget cut from County for 2027 (down over $50,000 since 2020), it is more important than ever to help the Endowment Fund reach it's goal of self-sustainment for the Historical Society by donating during Match Day! Their goal is $15,000 for Match Day.

⭐The Geary County Historical Society will be raising funds for the replacement of the elevator at the GCHS Museum, which suffered catastrophic failure in August 2026. Our goal is $50,000 for Match Day.

Match Day will be held on October 20th, 2026. Donations can be made in person at the Municipal Auditorium from 7:00am-5:30pm or online at www.gearymatchday.com from 12:00am-11:59pm.

Match Day 2026 is a week away! This year we have a LOFTY goal as we try to raise funds to repair our elevator, which suffered a catastrophic failure on August 15th. Our elevator keeps our three floor building (and our community's history) accessible to everyone regardless of age or ability, but getting it up and running again is not a cheap endeavor. Help give history a lift this Match Day by donating to the Geary County Historical Society.

Your gift goes further on Match Day! Gifts between $25 and $1,000 receive a 50% match—a $100 donation becomes $150 in support.

Have you ever wondered about those log cabins down the street from Junction City Middle School? Join us today at the Spring Valley Historic Site at 721 N Spring Valley Road from 4-6pm for Back to School at Spring Valley After Hours Open House and explore the inside of the two 1850s era log cabins and the one rooms school house preserved by the Geary County Historical Society.
