A little time can make a big difference! Thank you to the Carl Junction students who volunteered in our gallery today as part of their service learning class.

Volunteering is a meaningful way to connect with your community and see the impact of lending a hand. We’re grateful these students shared their time with the Exploreum and helped make it a welcoming place to explore and discover!

Being yourself sounds simple. Letting people see the whole you takes courage.

For Alaina Clayton, Director of Development & Marketing at the Schroeder Family Exploreum, being BOLD means showing up with empathy, vulnerability, and the humor that's always been part of who she is.

"Making people laugh and building relationships are my superpowers. I might shake my head later at something funny I said, but I never want to look back and wonder why I was afraid to be myself."

Learning to trust her voice was something the late Carol Stark, former publisher of The Joplin Globe, helped her do. Carol was someone Alaina deeply admired and considered a mentor. Her encouragement became a turning point.

"Having someone I looked up to affirm my voice meant so much. It helped me see that I could be myself and still have something meaningful to contribute."

That experience has stayed with Alaina as she helps share other women's stories through our Women of BOLD series.

"There's vulnerability in sharing your story and letting people see who you are. I've loved getting to help women do that. You never know who needs to hear something you almost kept to yourself."

For Alaina, boldness includes speaking up and setting boundaries, but it also lives in everyday moments: caring openly, making people laugh, building meaningful connections, and showing up as exactly who you are.

We gave it a try, and as you can see, we took our assignment pretty seriously. Think your team is up for the challenge?

Thanks again to Lori and Kara for bringing more creative fun to the Exploreum! We’re always adding new ways to explore, and we’ll share a little closer look later this week. Stay curious!

Something new is taking shape in the North Wing, and we’re keeping you guessing!

Here’s a little behind-the-scenes peek before the fun arrives next week. A big thank-you to Lori and Kara from our Exhibits and Education Committee for helping bring it to life! Kara also serves on our board, and we’re grateful for the creativity and time they both share with the Exploreum.

Any guesses? We’re keeping this one under wraps just a little longer!
