Veterans Memorial Museum The museum is located within the Cambia County War Memorial Arena at 326 Napoleon Street, Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Thank you and enjoy all we have to offer.

The Veteran Museum is a place where you can preserve and honor the memory of a loved one who served proudly and honorably in the armed forces of the United States of America. The museum is dedicated to the women and men of the surrounding area who have served in the United States military. The museum was first commissioned as a Union Cemetery after the Civil War, but after the flooding in 1889 the

cemetery was destroyed and the graves were reinterned at the Grandview and Sandyvale Cemeteries. The arena was built in 1950 and designated as the War Memorial Arena in honor of the returning veterans from World War II. The museum features photo's, patches, personal items, medals, and uniforms from World War I to the Global Wars on Terrorism. There is no entrance cost, but donations are welcomed. The museum is open during most events at the arena. Additionally, we are open for groups by invitation. Requests can be made through the arena's main phone line at 814-565-5156. If you have military items you believe would be appropriate for the museum they can be donation via the arena's main office.

Join us in observance of the 25 years since 9/11 for a free concert of "The Four Freedoms" performed by our chancel choir and an orchestra. Doors open at 6:00 pm with the performance starting at 7:00 pm.

The Veterans Leadership Program has announced the date for the 5th annual StandDown Johnstown veteran event.

Stand Down is scheduled for October 3rd from 9 am -1 pm at The Johnstown Masonic Temple, 130 Valley Pike, Johnstown, PA 15905. The event is open to all veterans and their families in the Laurel Highlands area and has been very well attended.

The Stand Down is geared to provide veterans with resources, shelter referrals, warm clothing, health screenings, benefits counseling, among many other services as the cold weather approaches. In addition to Breakfast and Lunch, Veterans will be provided with services such as haircuts, referrals for other community resources such as health care, housing, employment, substance use treatment and mental health counseling.

In past years, we were able to provide clothing, new coats and boots, toiletries, backpacks for children, fresh produce, and much more. We hope to make this year even bigger and better.

The threat was real and local militias prepared for the worst. Up to 12 months before Gen. Lee's Gettysburg campaign, Confederate scouts surveyed the best routes to enter Pennsylvania. Confederate Cavalry even stopped the night at an Inn south of Bedford before returning south the next day. Local militias didn't know that would be the only incursion in our area. Edward Dreikorn III from Studio 32 is restoring a large group of old glass negatives taken by a Soldier of the 176 Field Artillery during WW1. This amazing donation was just received at the museum this week. The hopes are to produce digital copies of each negative to display.

The generous donor, Jay Bowser from Bedford County, found a wooden box labeled "Office Mess 176 FA" in an old barn soon to be leveled and removed to another site. In addition to the negatives from Western Front in WW1, were glass negative "PowerPoint" slides used to train troops. We are looking forward to the total restoration by Studio 32!
