Next friday, a week from today, is our official reception for the international Fl3tch3r exhibit!

A public program featuring this year’s juror, Jessica “J.B.” Burke, will be held on Friday, September 4, with a juror’s talk beginning at 6:30 p.m., followed by an awards presentation at 7:30 p.m. and a public reception. Approximately $2,000 in awards will be presented.
Since its founding, the International FL3TCH3R Exhibit has provided a forum for artists whose work addresses pressing social and political concerns. Rather than prescribing a specific theme, the exhibition invites diverse artistic responses that reflect the complexity, urgency, and evolving conversations surrounding justice, equality, human rights, environmental issues, identity, and global conflict.

This year’s juror, Jessica “J.B.” Burke, is an artist and educator based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Burke, who prefers to go by J.B., is a contemporary realist and Associate Professor of Art at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Her drawings have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including the Mint Museum, the Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts, the KEPCO Plaza Gallery Museum, and most recently Aqua Art Miami during Art Basel Miami Beach. Her work has also appeared in publications including Manifest’s International Drawing Annual (INDA) 13, Hi-Fructose Magazine, Hyperlux Magazine, 3x3 Illustration International, and Creative Quarterly: The Journal of Art and Design.

Please join us next friday, September 4th for the awards ceremony. As always, we will be serving light refreshments, and any and all are welcome to attend.

This weekend is exciting here at Fischman Gallery, because we have some really awesome events happening! First, Friday we have the Lyberarchelulo duets returning for its end of year run, starting this Friday and going through November on the third Friday of the month! AND on Saturday from 10-1pm we have Eilleen Knott returning for another awesome painting class. Pre registration is required, all materials are provided and the class is 35$. Please contact the instructor to sign up and we hope to see you this weekend!

Reminder! We will NOT have a first friday reception this evening! Please mark your calendars for the jurors talk and awards ceremony for SEPTEMBER 4th. You can still come see the show starting tomorrow! The International Fl3tch3r Exhibit will be open for viewing Saturday August 8th during our normal open hours!

The Lyberarchelulo Duets residency series returns FRIDAY AUGUST 21st! with Andrew Gibbens joined by Erin Dalton. The married couple have been collaborating musically in one form or another since they met twelve years ago. Today their primary musical collaboration centers around the band Charlie Maples. Alexi Leo will share an opening set. Alexi frequently accompanies Charlie Maples on the trumpet as part of the horn section, The Shenanigans. As has become a custom, Alexi will join Andrew and Erin for some improvised explorations.

The performance starts at 7pm on August 21st!

As we look forward to welcoming The International Fl3tch3r Exhibit for the months of August and September, things are going to work a little differently. We will NOT be having our traditional first friday in august. Instead, we will be having a jurors talk and award ceremony on the first friday of September, September 4th, which will function as our "first friday reception", and will be open to the public. Even though we aren't having a reception this month on Friday, the exhibit will be ready for viewing on Saturday August 8th. We are very excited about this new partnership! Please mark your calendars for the public awards ceremony on September 4th!
