This is a very sad announcement: With a deep sorrow and pain In my heart I am to notify everyone who ever been in contact with the Hudson Artists of New Jersey and/or the Upstairs Art Gallery that on March 5th, 2020 MARGARET COLAVITO passed away.
What can I say about Marge Colavito aside the fact that she was an amazing artist, who sacrificed her own personal life in favor of the art, the artistic community, and education of the future generation of artist, she was a beautiful, compassionate and Loving soul with a golden heart. I am so mad that I wasn’t notified of her passing when that happened until today. I missed the last meeting with my dear mentor and my friend before Her last journey to her new resting place to Rest In Peace after her extremely busy and tiresome life. She was never idle. Teaching art and organizing countless number of art exhibitions, helping those who were less fortunate, and not stressing about small unimportant stuff - those were the driving forces to maintain her good health and long life. Marge was only three years younger from my father who died in 2005. That says something. She was the longest presiding Chairman of the Hudson Artists of New Jersey and so it happened that I was her last elected president of the above mentioned organization. Soon after she retired and then put in the nursing home the organization ceased to exist. Yes, Marge was keeping everything together and it seems that without her the HANJ could not really go on. My mind is filled with so many great memories of her and of our joint experience of organizing events... I would like to say so many things about Miss Colavito but I guess if I did that I would have to write another book. I dedicated my first book that I published in 2013 to Marge and she was so surprised and happy at the same time. This fact alone should tell you how highly I regarded her and her demise it’s a very sad moment for me and I will miss her tremendously. The last time I saw her was when I visited her at the St. Joseph nursing home, but she wasn’t the person that I knew when we both wear very heavy involved in our artistic activities, both working for the non-profit Hudson Artists of New Jersey.
I love you Marge and I will never forget you. RIP!
