Museum Update: We’ve had one hell of a year this past week, but we finally got the whole museum moved to our new location at 310 Queen St in Jerome, AZ! We plan to reopen within a few weeks or ASAP, whichever comes first.

The Skullatorium, located at 889 Hampshire Ave # G-200, will be closing this Sunday, 9-27 at 5pm. We will re-open in early October at our new location, 310 Queen St. in Jerome. In the mean time, take a look at what we’ve been working on.

The Skullatorium will be staying open late tonight for the Jerome Chamber of Commerce, 1st Saturday Art Walk! Today, our hours are 11am to 8pm. Last admission sold at 7:30. Come see us at the old high school before we move! Jerome Chamber of Commerce

Ok, we’ve kept you waiting long enough. Here is The BAD News: The Skullatorium will be closing soon. The GOOD News: You still have time to come check it out until it’s gone forever. Ok, so now, The REALLY GOOD News: We are moving to a new location in Jerome! We are “breaking out” of our current location at the old high school, and moving to the middle of town….right next to the sliding jail! Going from leas than 800 sq ft, to over 2000 sq ft!!! Phase Two, engaged. Opening in early October. So much to do. Stay tuned.

You know what they say; “There’s more than one way to clean a skull”…or something like that. People are always asking; “who cleans all the skulls and bones?” Visitors are generally surprised when I inform them that I personally clean all the specimens we have on display in our museum. I use a variety of techniques I have “perfected” over the past 45 years. Which method I use is based on the state of decay when I receive the carcass. One method is one of nature’s best for cleaning bones. The dermestid beetle, Dermestes maculatus. Prepping food for a thriving dermestid colony, can take up quite a bit of time. They require environmental control like humidity, temp., and isolation from pest species. They also stink, but consider what they are eating. Despite all the maintenance required to keep a healthy dermestid colony, they do produce the best results when cleaning specimens…especially the tiny ones. Ill be posting about some of the other methods I use for cleaning skulls…so stay tuned, or whatever.
