The Howard Steamboat Museum Step back in time with a tour of the Howard Steamboat Museum! The museum features original furnishings throughout. We are open year-round.

The beautiful mansion our museum calls home was built in 1894 by the Howards of Jeffersonville, Indiana, a family who for three generations were among the premier steamboat builders in the country. Models, photographs, paintings, and other unique artifacts abound in our historic collections. Personal, informative tours are offered.

Let's do a little (virtual) Coffee, Curation and Conversation. We're going to do live Coffee, Curation and Conversation on campus soon, but this is a good practice session. So get your coffee and let's discuss this artifact!

This came to us from Mary Gowers of Jeffersonville, Indiana. She says it came from her parents, Claude and Pauline Garrison who lived in Goodlettsville, TN. Mary's husband was Carroll Gowers, who served as Director of Public Housing and Redevelopment for 42 years under SEVEN mayors of Jeffersonville! Mary taught at Northaven Elemetary and McCulloch Schools for 28 years and the couple used to live on Perrin Lane in Jeffersonville. Their daughters are Dawn and Gretchen. Mary doesn't know anything about the photo's history, but she sent it to us hoping we could use it in the museum. Maybe we can help uncover that history!
