The Museum of Measurement and Time displays include over 500 clocks made by many of the American Clock manufacturing companies dating from the 1700's through the 1900's. Our exhibits feature numerous unique calculating and mathematical devices, if you have an interest in math you will be impressed. If you do not have an interest, we believe our presentation will make you a student of the marvels of math!
Our measurement collections include examples of not only early surveying instruments, maps and calculating devices; we also have exhibits of measuring instruments that represent the modern technology we enjoy today. The 1800’s and 1900’s were periods provided the growth and development we have in the 2000’s. Most of us accept the modern devices we use each day for granted; it is probable there were instruments and devices which were developed at an earlier date provided the technological achievements we use today.
Our display of salt & pepper shakers usually bring back memories of those our parents or grandparents possessed. The collection illustrates how extensive the production and collecting of the salt & pepper shakers was during earlier times. It is impressive to view the wide range of subjects and materials used in the production of this useful and simple item. Planned for 2019 is an expansion of the museum library. We hope to have completed the “Research Library” to include the college texts used by Johnny Ingram as he acquired his education as a Civil Engineer. The museum book collection already includes many books published in 1700, 1800 and early 1900. This library is available to interested visitors “on specific request”. Space is also available for your use of this material.
The newest exhibit of Mechanical Musical Instruments, Computer Systems and Telephone Systems received a high level of interest in 2018. We are making changes and additions to these exhibits which should increase.
